On the morning Saturday 24th October we will be running the children’s and the adults fetes. Both will have fun activities; for the children craft, games, painting and puzzles and for the Adult, there will be Welcome to country by Darug Elder Dr Aunty Jacinta Tobin, stalls with merchanise to buy, stalls with information and demonstrations especially of care of Country and cool burns, photos (on the spot or ready-made), pre-made videos, performances like Didgeridoo playing plus maybe choir, displays, free giveaways and with a VIP roving commentator to pull it all together. The focus of this Fete is on Kangaroos Health and Welfare, supporting Independent Kangaroo Rescuers & Carers and improving Australia's native habitat. This Fete is a chance to celebrate and show respect for these highly evolved sentient beings in a family fun informative way and with a First Nation's People Perspective.

Our AIMS for the 2026 year is to focus on spreading the word about ... ..how amazing our kangaroos are so the public will love them and want to protect them as much as we do
…how their natural habitat is diminishing forcing them to eat inadequate european grass..and how we can help/support their Independent Rescuers and Carers to survive as many of them are living from one day to another.
The Kangaroo Inspired Concert will be held from 1:45pm to 4:30pm in the theatre of WFSA. While songs are played/sung by performers, footage of our kangaroos appears on the screen that reflect some aspect of the song being played and/or sung at the time. Dr Aunty Jacinta Tobin will give a Welcome to country. The Heathens and Wombats Crossing are the performers. Prof Garlick Dr Austen will show us what Possumwood does for Kangaroos. The VIP MC is Deputy Mayor Counsellor Romola Hollywood. The concert entry fee is in cash $40 full/$35 concession – online bookings add a booking fee.
Possumwood Wildlife Sanctuary will be the main recipient of the income from the concert.
As well as rescuing and caring for over 500 injured or sick wildlife a year, Possumwood is doing much needed Research on Kangaroo stress & behaviour and on developing treatment protocols that are effective for macropods with injuries on fences, by vehicles, by shooting and by dog/fox attacks.
They have and are continually developing macropod rescue/care training courses for Kangaroo rescuers and carers.
Possumwood is in desperate need of a new rescue vehicle.

Create news. We have Dr Craig Kelly, Blaxland Vet who is passionate about our native wildlife, to MC the Kangaroo & Habitat Research Conference on the morning of the 31st October.

We still are looking for a VET with macropod expertise to talk about their experience protecting 'Buru' - The Kangaroo.

The line up is looking great; Dr Aunty Jacinta Tobin will present the findings of her thesis that is concerning 'Retrieve of Ancient Knowledge & Healing Country using darug langauge and song'

Greg Keightley will present his and Diane's astonishing findings on the percentage of head shots by Kangaroo Killing Industry Shooters and Warzone Realities for Kangaroos every day of their lives.

Either Prof Steve garlick or Dr Rosemary Austin will present their Research into Kangaroo stress, behaviour & Treatment protocols for injuries from fences, vehicles, shooting and dog/fox attacks.

Hi Everyone, Sorry about the garbled post on the BMWKD Fete last week, there are only a few of us working to organise this year's event and sometimes it sends my head spinning.
In 2026, Blue Mountains World Kangaroo Day will have FOUR events that are ...
the Fete for Adults & Children on the morning of Saturday, the 24th October 2026;
the Auction on the afternoon of Saturday, the 24th October 2026;
the Kangaroo & Habitat Research Conference on the morning of Saturday, the 31st of October 2026.
the Kangaroo Inspired Concert on the afternoon of Saturday, the 31st of October 2026.
All four of these four events will be held at the Wentworth Falls School of Arts Complex (WFSA).
At the FETE we have already got Dr Aunty Jacinta Tobin (Darug Elder) to do Welcome to Country and to present, in the Adults Fete, how everyone can help to regenerate (Kangaroo etc) habitat with the help/support of First Nation's People Knowledge and understanding. We also have Uncle Graham Davis King entertaining us on the didgeridoo. We also will have Buttonworks kangaroo ornaments & games etc for sale plus plus lots of other goods and services. We are open to any other suggestions. We are looking for a Roving Commentor for the Adults Fete. The Children Fete activities will have similar activities to last year. We are looking for a childrens' coordinator for the childrens' fete.
The Auction is our first attempt to make a significant amount of money (at least $1000 for each) to give to Independent Rescuers and Carers who are doing it tough out there. Let's us know about any independent Kangaroo Rescuers/Carers that should be included. The way we make money in an auction is by having high quality goods or services to auction off. We already have the donation of this beautiful blue fruit bowl made by Katoomba Potter, Anne Edwards, to auction on the day. Have a look around your house to see if you have something you can donate to the auction. We do need an auctioneer to run the auction on the afternoon of the 24th October 2026.
At the Kangaroo & Habitat Conference we have got Professor Steve Garlick or Dr Rosemary Austen from Possumwood talking about Kangaroo Research and treatment protocols. We also have Greg Keightley talking about the Kangaroo Killing Industry and the research he and Diane have done to expose the actual head count tally. We have Dr Aunty Jacinta Tobin (Darug Elder) to present her research where she found that ancient knowledge can be restored through language and song. We will have a vet to talk about how vets help Kangaroos and their rescuers and carers. Uncle Graham Davis King will do Acknowledgement of Country and talk about FNP and Kangaroos. We need an MC for the conference, if you know of anyone?
The Concert will be similar to last year with Possumwood getting all income from this concert; but we have The Heathens and Wombats Crossing as the performers. Dr Aunty Jacinta Tobin (Darug Elder) to do Welcome to Country, Prof Garlick or Dr Rosemary Austen will present what Possumwood does to help Kangaroos and Councillor / Deputy Mayor Romola Hollywood will be the VIP MC. We still need lots of video and photos of Kangaroos to make the footage behind the performers and we need someone to film the event so we can send a link to the Rescuers and Carers who can't come to the concert because of their 24/7/365 rescue/care responsibilities.
Please help us to make the general public know and love Kangaroos as we do. Come to these events and help out on the day if you can. See less

Sorry haven't been posting for a few weeks had business work to do.
I just heard that the PM announced they were going to supply vietnam with kangaroo body parts. Please ring or email the prime minister and/or the environment minister - Watt? - to tell them to stop this horrific slaughter of these highly sentient beings. They belong here, most of us don't.
