Each day begins with Morning Meeting. This pivotal part of the day brings us together as a group, and can inform the day’s thinking, play and learning.
Morning Meeting is a declaration of the co-living and shared learning that children and teachers encounter.  Morning Meeting is a daily affirmation of each person’s identity, participation and belonging within our kindergarten community. It is a time where every child is welcomed and recognised as a valued member of the group.
For the children, Morning Meeting provides an opportunity to settle into the day, connect with one another and share their thoughts and ideas. Together, we make plans, reflect on our learning and work collaboratively to develop and progress our group projects and investigations.

This week we’re acknowledging Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day; an opportunity to celebrate the strength, culture and rights of First Nation’s children.
The 2026 National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day theme is ‘Living Our Truth’, honouring the power of truth-telling, the sharing of knowledge across generations.
For 2026, ‘Living Our Truth’ celebrates the voices, stories and knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, families and communities. It recognises the importance of truth-telling as a foundation for identity, belonging and cultural strength, and honours the role of Elders and community in passing knowledge to the next generation. This year, we celebrate children as the next generation of leaders; confident, proud and ready to carry forward the strong voices, stories and knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and communities.

International Day of Friendship - July 30

The International Day of Friendship was proclaimed in 2011 by the United Nations General Assembly to promote peace, understanding, and reconciliation across cultures. It focuses on fostering bonds of trust, solidarity and connecting with friends.

Our world faces complexities and challenges, crises and forces of division, including poverty, violence, and human rights abuses, and more. These undermine peace, security, development and social harmony among the world’s peoples.

To confront such crises and challenges, their root causes must be addressed by promoting and defending a shared spirit of human solidarity - the simplest of which is friendship.

Friendship, camaraderie and trust can weave a safety net and generate hope and action for a better world where all are united for the greater good.

The children noticed that our framed Acknowledgement of Country sign had faded over time after years in the sun. This sparked a conversation about the group of children who originally created the sign 10 years ago and how we might carefully restore its colour while respecting the original design and its significance.

Teachers shared the history of the sign, explaining why it was created and how permission had been sought from an Aboriginal woman, at that time, to incorporate the rainbow colours. The children learned that these colours were considered appropriate as they reflect the story of the Rainbow Serpent.

By learning about the sign’s history, purpose and the children who created it, our current kindergarten community developed a deeper understanding of its meaning. It transforms the sign from something they pass each day into a lasting symbol of respect, connection and our ongoing commitment to acknowledging the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we learn and play - the land of the Wurundjeri People of the Kulin Nation.

As we’ve eased in to Term 3, this video is an invitation to think deeply about pedagogical practices, including our image of the child. This thinking guides the work of our teaching team at Pope Road Kindergarten.

Leanne, one of our teachers, and Educational Leader, has educated and advocated for high-quality early childhood education for all children, drawing on the Reggio Emilia Approach, which informs our kindergarten’s learning and teaching program. This message is a powerful one; hold onto your vision and purpose of why you chose to be an educator. Compliance matters, and pedagogy matters too.

Most importantly, every child deserves to know they are extraordinary.

We’re looking forward to another term of meaningful learning together.

We know that children’s participation in gardening enriches their awareness and understandings, through lived experiences, of the relationship between place, people and nature.

What a delight it is to work and learn in soil!
The Herb Garden is used in play, experiments, making potions, making bouquets, cooking and more.
