Celebrating the Leaders Behind the Learning
Behind every strong educational program is a team of passionate people who inspire, challenge, mentor and support our educators to continually grow.

We are incredibly proud to recognise the amazing work of our Start Smart Pedagogy Mentor, Sharna, alongside our dedicated team of Educational Leaders from across our nine Start Smart services.

Their role extends far beyond programming and documentation. They inspire reflective practice, mentor and empower educators, strengthen curriculum decision-making, encourage creativity and innovation, and ensure that the voices, interests and needs of our children remain at the heart of everything we do.

Together, they create opportunities for educators to share knowledge, challenge their thinking, celebrate successes and continue developing their professional practice. Their leadership helps build consistency across our services while still allowing each centre, team and community to shine in its own unique way.

And of course, we couldn't celebrate Educational Leaders without acknowledging one of their greatest talents…

Turning “the children enjoyed it” into a three-paragraph critical reflection linked to the EYLF, child voice, intentional teaching, future planning and at least four learning outcomes! 😂

All jokes aside, Educational Leadership is an incredibly important role. It takes passion, knowledge, patience and a genuine commitment to supporting others.

A huge thank you to Sharna and our nine amazing Educational Leaders for the energy, knowledge and dedication you bring to Start Smart. The work you do behind the scenes has a ripple effect — supporting our educators, strengthening our programs and, most importantly, creating richer learning opportunities for our children.

Sharing this from our Perfect Start Capalaba family. ❤️

Educators across our centres know each other, and this one is close to home. If you can share it further or give what you’re able to, it means the world.

This week is NAIDOC Week 🖤💛❤️
From 5–12 July, NAIDOC Week celebrates the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and this year marks a very special milestone.

The 2026 theme is "50 Years of Deadly," marking five decades of NAIDOC Week. In Aboriginal English, "deadly" means excellent or brilliant, and it's a celebration of the Elders, artists, leaders and communities who have shaped this journey.

At our centres, NAIDOC Week is a beautiful opportunity to yarn, listen, create and learn alongside our children — honouring the oldest continuing cultures on Earth. 🌏

There’s something truly special about learning surrounded by nature. 🌿✨

At Perfect Start Mary Street, our beautiful natural environment provides children with a peaceful space to slow down, explore and connect with the world around them. From shady outdoor areas to rich sensory experiences, nature becomes an extension of our curriculum, inspiring curiosity, creativity and a sense of calm.

These early experiences help children develop confidence, resilience and a lifelong appreciation for the environment, all while enjoying the simple joys of childhood.

A calm space. A natural childhood. A beautiful place to grow. 💚

⚙️ Big Cogs, Big Ideas! ⚙️

Who knew a collection of giant cogs could spark so much learning?

What might look like simple play is actually packed with opportunities for children to think, create, problem-solve, and experiment. As they connect, rearrange, and test different ways of making the cogs work together, they're constantly asking themselves questions like, "Will this fit?" "What happens if I move this?" and "How can I make this work?"

The best part? There isn't a right or wrong answer.

The giant cogs encourage children to think creatively, take on challenges, and keep trying when things don't go to plan. Every adjustment, every new idea, and every successful connection helps build confidence, resilience, and a sense of achievement.

It's also wonderful to watch children share their discoveries, learn from one another, and work together to bring their ideas to life.

At Perfect Start, we love creating spaces that invite curiosity and inspire children to become little inventors, engineers, and problem-solvers. Sometimes the most meaningful learning starts with a simple idea, a handful of cogs, and a child wondering, "What can I create today?" ✨
