A little glimpse of a week in the life of a final-year OT student on placement in Work Rehabilitation with KINNECT Cairns.
Over the past 10 weeks, Natasha had the opportunity to learn, grow, and develop her clinical skills while travelling throughout Far North Queensland, including the Cairns, Atherton Tablelands, Mareeba, Mission Beach, and surrounding regions.
This placement provided valuable insight into the role of Occupational Therapy in work rehabilitation and reinforced the importance of supporting people to participate in meaningful occupations.
A typical week might include:
• Monitoring calls with workers and employers
• Developing Recover at Work Plans
• Conducting worksite assessments with workers and employers
• Completing pre-employment assessments, including audio, vision, and functional testing
• Initial meeting with worker
• Facilitating job-seeking skills sessions
• Conducting Functional Capacity Evaluations
• Completing ergonomic assessments
• Undertaking ADL and Modified Barthel Index assessments
