π± Important Update: Changes to Our Mobile Phone Policy
Dear Parents and Carers,
From Monday 24 August 2026, Niland School will be changing our mobile phone policy from βoff and awayβ to phones stored in the office or a locker.
This change follows a number of incidents related to mobile phone use at school. Our goal is to create a mobile phone-free school environment that supports student learning, engagement, safety and wellbeing.
π± What students need to know
Students may continue to use their phones on the way to and from school.
Once students arrive at school, their phones must be stored for the school day in one of the following locations:
πΉ A locker in the front office foyer
πΉThe phone safe with charger inside the front office
Students will not have access to their personal mobile phones during the school day.
π¨ Staying connected in an emergency
We understand that families may need to contact their children when necessary.
For emergencies or to support students with health or wellbeing needs, school mobile phones are available for students to use on request through their teacher.
Making our school a mobile phone-free space helps improve learning and engagement, while ensuring students can access a phone when it is genuinely needed.
π¬ Questions, concerns or feedback?
We welcome communication from parents and carers. Please contact the school if you have any questions, concerns or feedback about our mobile phone policy. We are happy to discuss the changes and clarify how the new arrangements will work.
