Staff Professional Learning
On Friday 14 August, our staff engaged in a valuable day of professional learning with Kristy Elliot, a consultant who led our team in deepening our understanding of restorative relationships, positive psychology and positive team culture. The purpose of the day was to build the capacity of our staff around three important understandings:
β¨ Well teachers teach well β educator wellbeing must be a priority.
π€ Relationships are everything β they are at the heart of learning and growth.
π Restorative practices when implemented deeply, create equity and belonging
Staff explored what contributes to effective team culture, including developing a greater understanding and appreciation of the character strengths of those around us, as well as the importance of psychological safety in creating environments where people feel respected, valued and confident to contribute. We also reflected on the conditions that enable staff to work at their best, recognising that when staff are supported to be well, connected and professionally confident, they are better positioned to provide high-quality teaching and learning and to nurture the wellbeing of the children in their care. It was a rich day of reflection, learning and professional growth, reinforcing our commitment to creating a school culture where high expectations are balanced with strong support, positive relationships, trust and a deep sense of belonging for both staff and students.

Today we proudly celebrated Leaders Day, recognised across Australia on the first Friday of August. While the day has traditionally been known as Principal's Day, at Our Lady of the Way we believe that leadership is a shared responsibility. That's why we chose to celebrate all of our leaders, recognising the incredible contribution they make each day in supporting our staff, students and families.
To mark the occasion, our students were invited to describe the unique "superpowers" of our leaders. Their thoughtful responses inspired a collection of personalised superhero images, which were proudly unveiled and celebrated during our Community Prayer gathering. It was a wonderful way to acknowledge the many strengths, talents and qualities that make our leadership team so special.
A heartfelt thank you to our incredible leadership team for the care, dedication and commitment you bring to our school community each and every day. Your leadership, service and support make a lasting difference in the lives of our students, staff and families.
