📚 A little personal Book Week share…

Book Week for parents and caregivers can bring with it a little added pressure to make a costume for a book character — or, if you're anything like me, dashing to Kmart to find something in the right size that's not scratchy or hot... or simply anything that kind of resembles a character.

Even if you have to tilt your head and half-close one eye to see the resemblance. 😆

Add in Issue 6 of the Book Club catalogue coming home with just about every book marked “buy me”, and I found myself muttering under my breath, just get through Book Week...

Then I heard:

“What is your favourite book, Mum?”

And that was a bit of a pivotal moment for me.

Stop. Be in the moment. Talk books. ❤️

Because books aren't just one thing. They're as diverse as us humans.

Some teach us new things. Some teach us about what has been. Some are pure entertainment. And some have a little bit of everything, allowing us to become completely immersed in another universe where there really are no bounds.

As we browsed the catalogue and pondered which books were what, we came across Being Eve, authored by NeuroWild.

I already knew of this book through other interests, and it's actually on my list to read.

Yep, that's right — an adult who is well and truly over the hill 😆. This is where I appreciate the + after a recommended reading age!

I thought I'd do a personal share of this particular book because it may be of interest to others in our school community.

Being Eve is described as a funny, heartfelt coming-of-age graphic novel exploring ADHD, autism, friendship, first crushes and growing up neurodivergent.

Whether you or your child identify as Autistic or ADHD, or you simply want to better understand a world experienced differently by others, books like this can give us that opportunity.

They can entertain us and teach us something new.

And perhaps, for those who have sometimes needed books as a place to escape into a universe where there are no bounds — a universe where they can simply belong — stories like this can help the rest of us understand how we might create a little more of that inclusiveness in real life too. 💙

And one last little Book Club plug...

📚 Every book purchased through Book Club earns points for the P&C to “spend” on more books for our school!

More books for our kids, supporting our school, and maybe learning a little more about each other along the way.

I'd call that a win-win! 📚💙

What do P&C committee members get up to outside of school hours? 🤔

Sometimes it looks a little like this! 🍷 ☕💙

Catching up, sharing ideas, working out what’s coming up next and — most importantly — divvying up the workload between those who have the capacity, skills or a particular interest in something.

There’s always plenty happening behind the scenes, but no one person needs to do everything. When everyone brings what they can to the table, big or small, we can get a whole lot done for our school community.

And sometimes it’s just nice to catch up, have a laugh and remember that volunteering is meant to be enjoyable too! 🥰

Teamwork really does make the dream work! 💙

New Logan Central State Special School – Information Session

You are invited to attend an upcoming Information Session for the new State Special School being built alongside our school.

This is a great opportunity for families and community members to hear about the progress of the new school, including building and staffing updates, key milestones and preparations for opening in 2027.

📣 P&C MEETINGS – MONDAY 24 AUGUST
📍BESS Community Hub – E Block

Everyone in our BESS community is invited to join us for two P&C meetings on Monday evening. 💙💛

🟡 SPECIAL MEETING – 5.00pm
We’ll begin with a short Special Meeting for the purpose of adopting the updated P&C Constitution.

The Department of Education released an updated Model Constitution in April 2026, and our P&C is required to formally consider and adopt the updated version.

🔵 GENERAL MEETING – approx. 5.15pm
Our regular P&C General Meeting will commence directly after the Special Meeting.

You don't need to be on the P&C Committee to come along — **everyone is welcome to attend**.

General Meetings are a great opportunity to hear what the P&C has been working on, find out what’s coming up, share ideas and be part of conversations about how we can continue supporting our students, families and school community.

Whether you're a regular face, haven't been to a meeting for a while, or have never attended one before, we'd love to see you there. 🥰

🐄 The Ekka might be over… but apparently the cows followed us back to BESS! 😂
