Creating a safe sleep environment is one of the many ways we care for children each day. From following safe sleep practices and using approved cots, to completing visual checks every 5 minutes, our educators take every step to help children rest safely and comfortably.

We also work closely with families to understand each child's individual sleep routine, because feeling safe, settled and well-rested helps children learn, grow and thrive.

💜 Safe sleep is everyone's responsibility, and it's always a priority.

The children welcomed a very special visitor, Steve, who came to share his experiences of living with quadriplegia and using a wheelchair. This meaningful experience encouraged the children to ask questions, challenge their assumptions and develop a deeper understanding of inclusion, accessibility and the different ways people move through the world.

Throughout Steve’s visit, the children demonstrated curiosity, respect and confidence as they shared their theories and asked thoughtful questions. By listening to Steve’s lived experiences, they began to recognise that people may complete everyday activities in different ways and that accessible environments, specialised equipment and technology can support participation and independence. This valuable experience encouraged the children to challenge their initial assumptions and strengthened their understanding that having a disability does not prevent someone from travelling, swimming, driving or participating meaningfully within their community.

Our garden is blooming, and we couldn’t be prouder! 💚 Thanks to the hard work of our amazing children, educators and community members, who have been busy planting, watering, weeding and caring for our garden, we’re now seeing their efforts blossom before our eyes. 🌻🥕🌿

From tiny seeds to beautiful blooms, the children have learned that with a little patience, teamwork and lots of muddy hands, great things can grow!

As part of our ongoing commitment to keeping children safe, we were excited to welcome LifeEd Australia with Harold to our centre! 🦒
A huge thanks to Nat and Harold who ran the show that the children absolutely loved and learned from.
During the program, the children were supported to further develop their understanding of their bodies, personal boundaries and the importance of speaking up when something doesn’t feel right.
Through engaging, age-appropriate conversations and activities, the children explored concepts such as:
🌟 Understanding that our bodies belong to us
🌟 Recognising and respecting personal boundaries
🌟 Identifying trusted adults they can talk to
🌟 Using their voice to say “no” and seek help
🌟 Understanding that they can always ask questions and share their feelings
These important conversations are not limited to one program or one week. We continue to strongly embed children’s safety, wellbeing and protective behaviours throughout our everyday learning and relationships.
As we recognise Child Protection Week, we are proud to create an environment where every child feels heard, respected, empowered and safe. 💛
Every child has the right to feel safe, know their body belongs to them, and have trusted adults who listen and support them.

Elese from Girri Girra Aboriginal Experiences taught the children about National Wattle Day which was celebrated on the 1st of September. Elese brought in beautiful golden wattle for the children to see, touch and explore. The children were fascinated by its yellow flowers and delicate texture with everyone eager to have a turn holding and feeling it.
We learnt that wattle day marks the beginning of spring and that the Golden Wattle is Australia’s national floral emblem. We also learnt about the cultural significance of wattle including that it is women’s business to place wattle at the front door to help protect from bad spirits. Elese also taught us some Aboriginal words including “Ngurra” which is a Dharug word for Country.
The children especially enjoyed making ochre taking turns using rocks to carefully smash the ochre into a fine dust. They then sifted the ochre to remove the larger pieces before adding water and mixing it together to create a thick painting paste.
Elese explained that when the water is added to the ochre dust during the mixing process it is referred to as “Mother’s Skin”. They were excited to feel the texture of the ochre and see the marks and patterns they could create.
We then learnt that the emu movement is different for girls and boys. The girls placed their left hand underneath their right arm to create an emu-like “beak” while the boys held their right arm in the air with their left arm behind their back.
Elese explained that when we learn about our totem animals we can connect with and embody the animals through movement and imagination.

Our children and educators celebrated their love of books and literacy through lots of fun, imagination and creativity. 📖🌈

From dressing up as favourite characters to sharing stories, exploring new books and enjoying special reading moments together, it was a fantastic celebration of the joy that books bring.

Books inspire little minds, build language and communication skills, spark imagination and create a lifelong love of learning. ❤️📚

A big thank you to our wonderful educators, children and families for making Book Week so special! 🌟

The children enjoyed a wonderful craft morning at Berowra Public School, where they met Mrs Fenton in the library for a special story and craft experience. After listening to a story together, the children engaged with the Kindergarten students to create butterflies, caterpillars, jewel paddle pop insects and snails as they explored a variety of craft and art materials around the tables.

Throughout the morning, the children connected with the older students, including children they remembered from their time at Goodstart and siblings who had previously attended our centre. It was lovely to see the children recognising familiar faces and building connections within their wider school community. Berowra Public School

Last week, the children had the opportunity to learn about gardening and replant some vegetables and flowers in our newly renovated Vegetable Garden. A huge thanks to Jenny and John (our Goodstart Berowra Grandparents) who led the children in digging, planting and watering.

Through this experience, the children develop an understanding of sustainability and the life cycle of plants while building practical gardening skills. Through digging, planting and watering, children strengthened their fine and gross motor skills, responsibility and teamwork, encouraging children to share knowledge, ask questions and develop a sense of belonging within their community. 🪴🪏🫜👩‍🌾
