What happens when you gently press into a Pilates ball with your ribs or back?

Sometimes the best learning happens when we have something to help us FEEL the sensation in the Body.

Gentle pressure in the Pilates ball provides feedback, helping singers become more aware of how the ribs, back, and breath respond during movement and breathing.

Rather than forcing a breath or trying to "do it right," the ball offers information. It can highlight areas that move easily, areas that feel more restricted, and create greater awareness of the connection between the body and voice.

Awareness creates choice. Choice creates change.

What does a small Pilates ball have to do with singing? 🎈

Sometimes the simplest tools can create the biggest "aha!" moments.

🏀 Placing a Pilates ball behind the head or mid back can help singers become more aware of their head, neck and upper body alignment and how the body moves against the ball as they breath in and out

🙆‍♀️ Rather than being told to "stand up straight", the ball provides gentle feedback, encouraging a more balanced and coordinated posture.

💪When the body finds better balance, breathing, movement and vocal coordination often become easier.

✨ Awareness creates choice. Choice creates change.

Visual exercises with the Hoberman Sphere at last weekend's Games & Gadgets Workshop were fun and kept everyone thinking about how the breath is moving.

Using legato and staccato exercises can help bring awareness to the movement of ribs and abdominal muscles. It's a 360 degree 🫁 Breath

A wonderful day at playing with gadgets that help singers raise awareness of how their voice and body coordinate to make sound. I loved working with the talented students and teachers in the masterclass helping them find emotional connection with their songs and ways to use articulation to add colour and interest.

No nebuliser? No problem ☕️💨

Take 5-10 mins to relax over a cuppa.

Steam inhalation can be a simple way to help soothe and hydrate the vocal tract, especially during busy teaching, rehearsals, performances or when the air is dry.

Today I’m going old school with a cup of hot water and steam! Sometimes the simplest tools are the most accessible.

Steam supports the tissues around the voice, but hydration still starts from within so keep drinking your water too 💧

Give yourself a 15- 30 mins break after steaming then try out some SOVT. Gentle slides can help rebalance the voice and get you moving for the day.
