This term, our Year 9 students are participating in the Pawsitive Dog Therapy Program, a wonderful opportunity to build confidence, develop emotional regulation skills, strengthen communication, and promote overall wellbeing through positive interactions with support dogs.

Simba and Maggie have been on site every Tuesday and the students love it!

We are excited to see our students forming meaningful connections with our four-legged friends and benefiting from the many therapeutic outcomes that animal-assisted learning can provide.

🌱✨ Science Week was a huge success! This year's theme, Seeds of Science: Nurturing Knowledge for All, inspired students to explore sustainable gardens through exciting hands-on activities.
From building frog hotels and bee habitats to creating seed bombs and natural water filters, students investigated real-world environmental science while developing skills in observation, problem-solving, and thinking scientifically.
By the end of the week, students contributed to sustainable garden projects that will support our school and local environment. Best of all, students loved it so much they asked if we could have Science Week every week! 🌿🐝🐸

Our Year 11 students enjoyed a wonderful day exploring the rich history of Sydney's oldest neighbourhood, The Rocks.
A visit to The Rocks Discovery Museum provided fascinating insights into the people, places and events that have shaped this area. Students enjoyed wandering through Circular Quay and The Rocks, soaking up the beautiful sunshine and enjoying the lively atmosphere, including music from a talented busker.
Highlights of the day included meeting Sydney icon Danny Lim, dancing along to the music, participating in hands-on museum activities, and spending time together in one of Sydney's most historic and picturesque locations. A fantastic day of learning, exploration and fun! πŸŒžπŸŽΆπŸ“š

πŸ”¬πŸͺ As part of their study of minerals, our Year 9 Science students took part in a hands-on "mining" activity, using toothpicks and paperclips to extract chocolate chips from biscuits. Students explored different strategies, aiming to recover as many chocolate chips as possible while minimising damage to the biscuit. This led to discussions about the environmental impacts of resource extraction and the technologies used in modern mining operations. A fun and engaging way to develop a deeper understanding of the challenges and complexities involved in mining and resource management!

β˜€οΈπŸ« Our students enjoyed a fantastic day of learning with a visit to The Factory, indulging in chocolate, marshmallows and nougat! The behind-the-scenes factory tour gave students a firsthand look at how products are made, packaged, and distributed. While there weren't any chocolate rivers to dive into, there was a large pot of melted chocolate that looked very tempting! πŸ˜„ With the sun shining, the day continued at Terrigal for a beachside BBQ lunch. Students even had an opportunity to say hello to the visiting seal resting among the rocks. 🦭🌊 Beyond the sweet treats, the excursion provided valuable insights into manufacturing, production processes, logistics, and the wide range of career opportunities available in the industry. Most importantly, it was a wonderful opportunity for students to learn together and enjoy a memorable day outside the classroom. A big thank you to everyone who helped make the day such a success! 🍫🌞🌊

🌞 Year 9 students had a fantastic day at Darling Harbour, enjoying the sunshine, exploring the playground, and spending quality time together. The excursion provided valuable opportunities to build confidence in navigating public transport while developing independence. We were proud to see students demonstrate responsibility, reliability, and positive behaviour throughout the day. Most importantly, students strengthened social connections and enjoyed meaningful interactions with their peers. Building positive relationships is an important part of wellbeing, and it was wonderful to see students supporting one another and having fun. A great day all round! 😊

Our Year 10 Science students have been exploring chemical reactions! Students created lava lamps using oil, vinegar and bicarbonate of soda, observing how chemical reactions produce gases and cause dramatic movement within the mixture. They investigated how substances interact and discussed the evidence of chemical change.

Students also made pizza dough to explore the science of yeast and fermentation. Through this activity, they observed how a chemical process can produce carbon dioxide gas, causing the dough to rise, while gaining insight into the real-world applications of chemistry in food production.

These hands-on experiences encouraged students to ask questions, make observations, collect evidence and connect scientific concepts to everyday life. It was fantastic to see such high levels of curiosity, collaboration and enthusiasm as students developed their practical skills and deepened their understanding of chemical reactions.
Well done, Year 10! πŸ‘πŸ”¬
