What a fantastic day for our Year 3 students at Rainforestation!🌿πŸͺƒ

Students enjoyed an action-packed excursion yesterday, learning about Indigenous culture with the incredible Pamagirri dancers, trying their hand at boomerang throwing, and exploring the rainforest aboard the famous Army Ducks.

The day was filled with hands-on learning, new experiences and plenty of fun as students discovered more about our local environment, history and culture.

β™ŸοΈ Good luck to our Chess Team as they head off to the Interschool Chess Competition today!

Our students will spend the day testing their skills, strategy and concentration against students from St Gerard Majella School, Woree and St Michael's School, Gordonvale.

A big thank you to St Michael’s for coordinating this fantastic event and to St Gerard Majella for hosting.

Looking forward to a great day of strategy, sportsmanship and friendly rivalry as the schools battle it out for bragging rights until the next round! πŸ†β™ŸοΈ

In Prep to Year 2, we use the Get Reading Right program to help every child become a confident reader πŸ’›
Students are explicitly taught how sounds (phonemes) connect with letters and letter patterns (graphemes). They learn to blend sounds together to read words and break words apart to help with spelling - all building strong early reading and writing skills step by step.
Through daily lessons and decodable texts, students have lots of opportunities to practise and apply what they are learning. This helps them grow in confidence as their word recognition, fluency and reading skills develop.
A strong foundation in phonics gives our students the skills they need to thrive in reading, writing and learning across all areas of the curriculum πŸ“š

πŸš’ Year 1 students had a fantastic time welcoming members of the Queensland Fire and Rescue Service for a fire safety education visit today.

Students learned important fire safety messages, including:
πŸ”₯ Get down low and go, go, go!
πŸ”₯ Get out and stay out.
πŸ”₯ Don't hide - scream and shout.

They also discussed the importance of having a family evacuation plan and a designated meeting point in case of an emergency.

Our firefighters have set some homework for students:
🏠 Learn your home address in case you ever need to call Triple Zero (000).
🏠 Check where the smoke alarms are in your house.

We look forward to welcoming the team back next week when students will have the opportunity to explore the fire truck and learn even more about the important work our firefighters do.

🌧️🎭 Yesterday our Year 3 students proudly presented their Enrichment performance, a wonderful retelling of Big Rain Coming.

It was fantastic to see so many families join us for the performance and take the opportunity to view the students’ art folios, showcasing the creativity, effort and growth they have demonstrated throughout the semester. We are incredibly proud of all they have achieved! πŸŽ¨βœ¨πŸ‘

πŸ›πŸŒΏ Yesterday our Year 1 students dazzled us with their Enrichment performance!

Throughout Semester 1, students have taken part in our Arts Enrichment program, coming together as a cohort each week to develop their creativity and build their arts skills. Over recent weeks, they have been busy rehearsing and preparing for their special performance β€” a delightful retelling of The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

What a wonderful turnout from our families who joined us to celebrate the students’ hard work and creativity. We are so proud of their confidence, teamwork, and enthusiasm! 🎭✨

Writing is taught every day in every classroom through a consistent whole-school approach. πŸ“

We know writing is complex – it involves ideas, text structure, vocabulary, sentence structure and spelling all working together. Guided by the "Not So Simple View of Writing", we explicitly teach the key elements of strong writing so students learn how to write with confidence.

Writing is embedded throughout the day, from morning routines and fluency lessons to learning in HASS and Science, where students build the background knowledge that supports strong writing.

πŸ‘€ Take a look at writing in action across our school!

Congratulations to Patrick Doolan on receiving his 25 Year Service Award, recognising an outstanding milestone of service within the Catholic Education Diocese of Cairns (CEDC).

Although Patrick is new to our school community, he brings with him an incredible depth of experience and commitment, having dedicated 25 years to supporting students, schools, and families across the Diocese.

Thank you to Wayne Wood, Deputy Executive Director, for joining us today to present this well-deserved recognition.

We are very fortunate to have Patrick as part of our team and look forward to the contributions he will continue to make in our community.

Our Reader’s Cup team is now on their way back after a fantastic day of competition! πŸ“š

The students performed exceptionally well, finishing 4th overall out of 42 schools, and just half a point shy of 3rd place. An outstanding effort and an incredibly close result!

We are so proud of their preparation, teamwork, and enthusiasm throughout the event. What an achievement to be ranked among the top teams in such a strong field.
Well done team πŸ‘πŸ“–

Today we celebrate the beautiful example of community spirit shown by our Year 5 students.πŸ•ŠοΈ

A group of students gave their time today to help clean and care for our church. Their quiet service, teamwork, and willingness to help reflect the simple but powerful message: β€œπ’Ÿπ‘œπ’Ύπ“ƒπ‘” 𝓁𝒾𝓉𝓉𝓁𝑒 π“‰π’½π’Ύπ“ƒπ‘”π“ˆ π“Œπ’Ύπ“‰π’½ 𝑔𝓇𝑒𝒢𝓉 π“π‘œπ“‹π‘’.”

Inspired by the Good Samaritan, they show that kindness is not about recognition, but about action - looking after others and the places that matter in our community.
