One of our little friends noticed some feathery visitors stopping by our playground and became curious to discover more. So our special search was on! 🐦‍⬛👀🦜

Looking carefully around the yard and up into the trees, our little friend spotted a colourful lorikeet, a pigeon, with even more little visitors catching our eye along the way.

The excitement continues to grow with every bird spotted, and we are still looking around and wondering which feathery visitor might appear next! 👀🐥🦅🪿

🦗 Say hello to Jumpie 💚

Our little people discovered a grasshopper in the yard, and the excitement was instant! Everyone couldn’t wait to give our new little friend a name, and together we chose Jumpie. ✨

Thinking Jumpie might be thirsty and hungry, we decided to build a little home and find some food and water to help our new friend feel at home.

As the excitement continued, we also took a closer look at Jumpie’s long legs and wondered together, “How far do we think Jumpie can jump?”

Safe to say, Jumpie felt right at home and even enjoyed a little ‘adventure’ on one of our friend’s arm. 🩵🧡💚🩷

Our little explorers have been reaching for the stars as they immersed themselves in an exciting space exploration. They stepped into the role of astronauts by designing their own Astronaut ID Cards, counted the stars in the sensory tray, and explored the solar system while learning about the order of the planets from the Sun.

Through hands-on experiences, meaningful conversations and imaginative play, our little explorers shared their ideas, asked questions and discovered the wonders of space together. We can't wait to continue our journey as we explore more about our amazing universe!🚀 🌎✨

The research is clear 📚 reading aloud is one of the most powerful things we can do for our children.

When we read with a child, we’re doing far more than sharing a story. We’re building the foundations for language, confidence, curiosity and a lifelong love of learning.

Decades of research shows that children who are read to regularly:

💛 Build stronger language skills
Hearing rich varied language in books exposes children to far more words than everyday conversation alone. This growing vocabulary helps them understand, communicate and make sense of the world.

💛 Develop early literacy skills long before they learn to read
Through stories, children learn how books work – that print carries meaning, that pages turn left to right, and that stories have a beginning, middle and end. These early understandings make learning to read feel familiar and exciting.

💛 Strengthen phonological awareness
Rhymes, rhythms and playful sounds help children hear the building blocks of language.

💛 Grow their comprehension and thinking skills
Talking together about a story, predicting what might happen, wondering how a character feels, and connecting events to real life helps children develop memory, problem-solving, and higher-order thinking.

💛 Experience connection, comfort and joy
Shared reading fosters calmness, closeness, and moments of joint attention. These warm interactions support a child's sense of security and belonging.

Most importantly, children who experience positive, engaging reading moments from a young age are more likely to develop a genuine love of books - something that matters even more than early literacy skills alone.

Reading is simple, joyful, and sets children up for success in school and life.

🖤💛❤️ Learning, Celebrating and Connecting ❤️💛🖤

At Goodstart Benowa, our little explorers across the service came together to listen, wonder, create and learn as we celebrated NAIDOC Week.

Through stories, conversations and hands-on experiences, they explored and celebrated the rich cultures, histories and achievements of First Nations peoples, encouraging respect, understanding and connection from the early years. 💫

🩷Exploring the World of Healthcare🩺

Today, our little people were incredibly lucky to welcome Dr Pete and one of our wonderful Kindy mums Emily, who is a nurse, for a very special visit!

Our little people were full of curiosity as they explored real medical equipment, learnt how doctors and nurses help keep us healthy and were very lucky to have the opportunity to try on a range of real medical items. There was so much excitement as our little people explored, discovered and learnt through this hands-on experience.

Working in partnership with families is such a special part of our Kindergarten program. By sharing their real-life experiences, knowledge and expertise, our families help create meaningful, engaging and memorable learning opportunities for our little people.

A heartfelt thank you to Dr Pete and Emily for sharing their knowledge and experiences with our little people. It was truly a meaningful and memorable learning experience for our kindy community today!

✨ Exploring Eye Health Together👀

Our little people were excited to welcome optometrist Lesley and participate in a vision screening. They explored specialised equipment, learnt about eye health and discovered how our eyes help us learn and play. Our little people listened carefully and showed confidence as they participated in the screening. 🩷

Through meaningful community connections, our little people learn from real-life experts and gain a deeper understanding of the services that support our community. A big thank you to Lesley for visiting us and helping our little people feel comfortable and confident with eye checks as they prepare for their transition to school. 👀✨
