Vale Bryan Baker who passed away peacefully on July 30th.

We extend our condolences to his wife Gwenda, their sons and families.

Bryan's association with the Bendigo Flying Club extended over many decades, going back to the Club's earlier Woodvale days.

A passionate pilot and aircraft owner, Bryan owned and flew the Mooney M20J VH-IJO and was a familiar and highly respected member of Bendigo's aviation community.

Bryan was someone who didn't just belong to the Club — he helped build and shape it. His dedication was recognised in 1986 with a Meritorious Service Award, acknowledging his contribution to the Bendigo Flying Club.

He played an important role in establishing the Club's RA-Aus flying school, including travelling to Tyabb to select and collect aircraft 24-4851 for the new training operation.

Together with Garry Phillips, Bryan also helped establish the Club's fuel tanker and fuelling operation, providing an important piece of infrastructure that supported the Club's aircraft and flying activities.

In 2008, Bryan served as President of the Bendigo Flying Club, continuing a commitment to the organisation that had already extended over many years. In recognition of his longstanding dedication and contribution, Bryan was also honoured with Life Membership of the Bendigo Flying Club.

From the Woodvale days, through his years as a pilot and Mooney owner, to his leadership as President and his work establishing the flying school and supporting the Club's facilities, Bryan played a genuine part in the history of aviation in Bendigo.

More than anything, Bryan will be remembered for his love of aviation, his friendship, and the many years of time and service he gave to the Bendigo Flying Club and its members.

His contribution helped shape the Club we know today, and his legacy will remain part of the Bendigo Flying Club for generations of pilots to come.

Funeral Service
A Service of Thanksgiving to celebrate the life of the late Mr. Bryan Charles BAKER will be held at the Bendigo Funeral Centre Chapel, 29 Miller Street, Flora Hill, on WEDNESDAY, 5 August 2026, commencing at 1:00 pm.

BENDIGO FLYING CLUB SCHOLARSHIP 2026 ✈️

The Bendigo Flying Club Scholarship has now opened! The successful recipient will be announced at our Wings Night on October 3rd.

The Bendigo Flying Club Scholarship is for those aged between 15 and 23, with a genuine interest in aviation, with the hope of bringing more youth into aviation. It is valued at $8000 and aims to get a student to their Recreational Aviation Pilot Certificate. Flying training occurs throughout the year following the awarding of the scholarship.
