From little things, big things grow.

What if an ozobot was your bin collection truck?

It sounds simple: collect all the bins and get back to the depot.

But then the question starts:
- what is the shortest route?
- what happens when roads are blocked?
- how can we collect every bin without travelling the same road twice?
- how do we make the route faster?
- how many truck do we need to finish one round of collection?

In term 2, our students turned a simple challenge into a real scenario of route optimisation.

Our Sound Artist course in term 4 is all about celebrating the diversity of Victory Christian College through sound.

What does our school sound like? Every person experiences a place differently. By collecting sounds that represent our students, families and communities, we can create an audio map of our school — a map made not just of places, but of memories, cultures and experiences.”

Our term 4 courses are now live. The sessions are for the first 8 weeks of the term suitable for primary school aged kids.

Our courses are designed as a learning journey, not a collection of one-off activities. Each week builds on the skills, knowledge and ideas introduced previously.

Because learning builds from week to week, we can observe how students develop skills, confidence and problem solving strategies and independence overtime.

Our Comic Club course in term 3 was about hand-drawing-first-comics and visual storytelling. It wasn't about "drawing well" but about how to express their own world.

Ginny Jeong supports all the students whether they are creating comics for the first time or are quite advanced.

Todays spotlight is on this colourful comic by Charlie - The story of Bob. Bob seems to be the kid that gets himself in trouble everytime because of his curiosity but is also very resilient.

I shouted "Ouch... that must have hurt" while reading this comic. What was your reaction?

Charlie also designed the sign for the Comic Club class with beautiful patterns and vibrant colours.

Sometimes technology isn’t the solution.

Today, our holiday program kids used a micro:bit to code their very own Rock, Paper, Scissors game. 🤖✊📄✂️

But the challenge wasn’t just about making the technology work.

They explored randomisation, thinking about how a computer can make a random choice. They investigated probability, asking questions like: What are the chances of winning? Does choosing rock, paper or scissors change your chances?

They had to break the game down into rules, turn those rules into code, test their ideas, find bugs and make changes.

Sometimes the best solution is high-tech… and sometimes it’s simply knowing when to put the technology down.

It’s not just about learning to code. It’s about learning to think.

It started as an idea a few weeks ago with CrossFit Dauntless

Over term 3, our students developed a rep counter for the wall ball exercise. They started with programming one microbit and soon realised that the sensor would have to be installed at the back of the plate, so another one was added that would send the signal to the one installed at eye level for the viewing the count.

Over 10 weeks, the students tried and tested the code and today we installed it. As expected, the program worked but we had to try a few different locations to make sure the reading was accurate. After a few little fixes, the microbits will be used by the Dauntless community and they won't be able to fudge their rep count 😉

A big thank you to Pete and Joey for giving us and the students the opportunity to work on a real project and also having us all today.

There will be part 2 of this project (measuring efficiency of the squats) in 2027.

And if you have been thinking about exercise and fitness, check them out whether you are 9 years old or 78 or anything in between. They genuinely care about the health and well-being.

When students can understand why they are learning something, where it can be applied and who it can help - that is where we see the real value of STEAM learning.

The technology becomes a tool for solving a problem, rather than the problem itself.

With term 3 coming to a close soon, we invite you to join us at the showcase on Friday after school from 3.30pm at Girton Grammar school to check out what our students have achieved in the courses

Our students from sensor designer have completed their project yesterday and they will install and test the wall ball exercise sensors at CrossFit Dauntless - Happier Healthier Humans

The students have enjoyed the computer science unplugged course at the library and Victory Christian College. You can check out some of the activities and perhaps take some sheets home to solve with your family.

Comic club has been fun and the students are all very proud of their comic creations, hand-drawn and digital sketches. All of the comics will be compiled into one booklet.

Our little EV fleet managers trained the little robots to park, managed a fleet of buses and bin trucks. Come and check out these robots in action

We have done lots of planning for term 4 and have a big line up of courses with collaborations with wonderful people and local businneses - Wrapping paper design with Antonia Ridge, Sensor designer for Treehouse Paediatrics, Comic club with Ginny Jeong, Game designer for Pogo and sound artist for Victory Christian College
