🩺 In celebration of yesterday's Thank a First Responder Day, we gathered up 60 of Bendigo's future health care professionals for an exciting, hands-on introduction to the many pathways within the industry.

Designed especially for Year 7 and 8 students, the inaugural Exploring Health Careers Immersion Day saw students from Bendigo South East College, Catherine McAuley College, Girton Grammar School, and Marist College Bendigo rotate through a series of interactive activities, including:

πŸ”Ά Patient care and diagnostics
πŸ”· CPR skills and awareness
πŸ”Ά Fitness and mental health with Gurri Wanyarra Wellbeing Centre's Mick Ewart
πŸ”· VIC VICE VR health careers experience

Students then toured the La Trobe University, Bendigo Rural Health School with Nursing and Midwifery student Jade, getting a glimpse into their future study options and the rewarding health careers that can begin close to home.

To wrap up the day, students put their newly developed skills to the test in an energetic school-versus-school Kahoot quiz and CPR race, with Girton Grammar School taking the top spot for demonstrating the most accurate answers and techniques. πŸ†οΈ

Thank you to the Goldfields LLEN for partnering with us to deliver this event, and to the students for your enthusiastic participation! We hope the day sparked new interests and helped you picture your future careers in healthcare. ✨️

After piloting our Forensic FUNdamentals program in 2025, it was a pleasure to welcome Marist College Bendigo's newest Year 7 cohort over the past two weeks for another exciting investigation. πŸ”ŽπŸ”¬

From the moment they stepped into the Tech School, every little detail became a clue, from a half-eaten biscuit to a knocked-over plant. Working in pairs, the students combed the crime scene and collected evidence in the case of the missing robot.

Armed with the uncovered evidence, they then rotated through real-world forensic tests, including fingerprint dusting, chromatography, electrophoresis, and hair, fibre, and soil analysis.

To conclude their investigations, students created videos to present their theories on β€œwhodunit,” combining scientific evidence with creative storytelling to solve the mystery and bring PITA the robot home.

What a fantastic six days of hands-on learning, problem-solving, and discovery that sparked genuine interest in forensic science careers for many students β€” featuring some fancy dress along the way!

We still have limited spots available for Forensic FUNdamentals in Terms 3 and 4. Local educators are encouraged to get in touch via [email protected] to book their students in.

Tasked with becoming digital content creators, Bendigo Senior Secondary College’s Year 11 VM students turned the Tech School into a film studio this term as part of their annual Digital Storytelling program. πŸŽ₯ 🎬️

Guided by our team β€” including Dan Walsh, whose 20 years in film and television provided valuable industry insight and inspiration β€” students explored every stage of the creative process, from storyboarding and scripting through to filming and editing.

Tackling a diverse range of topics, including the social media ban, scam prevention, career β€œday in the life” features, and food reviews, students used professional multimedia equipment and techniques to bring their ideas to life.

It was fantastic to watch students step outside their comfort zones, work together as production teams, and grow in confidence throughout the program, with plenty of memorable moments (and bloopers!) along the way.

We still have limited spots available for Digital Storytelling in Terms 3 and 4. Local educators are encouraged to get in touch via [email protected] to book their students in.

🩺 Shining the spotlight on careers in medicine. ✨️

This week, our Medical Clinical Immersion Day returned for its second year, in collaboration with the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM) and the Goldfields LLEN.

We transformed Bendigo Tech School into a bustling mini medical precinct for the day, giving 45 students from Bendigo South East College, Girton Grammar School, Highview College, Marist College Bendigo, and VCC.victorychristiancollege a glimpse of life on the frontline.

Rotating through a series of workshops, students learned a variety of practical medical skills utilised daily by real clinicians, including:

πŸ”Έ Taking blood pressure
πŸ”Ή Wrapping slings and splints
πŸ”Έ Testing reflexes
πŸ”Ή Using ultrasound tools
πŸ”Έ Undertaking eye and ear exams

Everyone then came together for a hands-on plastering workshop β€” equal parts educational, messy, and incredibly fun!

To wrap up the day, students explored local study pathways at La Trobe University and Monash University, and gained real-world perspectives on what regional and rural medical careers are like, directly from current clinicians and medical students.

A huge thank you to everyone who made the day possible: ACRRM, the Goldfields LLEN, the teachers, and especially the students! We can’t wait to see the impact you’ll make in rural and regional communities throughout your medical journeys. 🀩
