While we are very excited to hear from you, please be aware that we reserve the right to moderate this page as we see fit and remove any posts or materials that we deem inappropriate or not beneficial to the wider community. We provide an indoor-outdoor program, giving children opportunities to independently access both our indoor and outdoor learning environments throughout their day. 🌿☀️

Providing this opportunity supports children’s agency and independence, while recognising that every child learns, plays and engages differently. Some children may seek the space and movement of the outdoors, while others may choose quieter experiences inside — and their preferences can change throughout the day. 💛

Our educators intentionally plan and support both environments so that meaningful opportunities for play, exploration and learning are available indoors and outdoors.

Mud🪏cars 🚗🚙 and plenty of imagination! ✨🙌🏻

Our Barramul (Toddler 1) and Garuk (Toddler 2) children have been busy transforming the outdoor environment into their own little world.

As the children added water, moved the mud and drove their cars through the landscape, their ideas began to take shape - creating roads, pathways and new places for their vehicles to explore.

The outdoor environment provides opportunities for children to experiment, problem-solve, communicate and collaborate, while having the freedom to take their play in their own direction. 🌿

There has been lots of curiosity, exploration and discovery happening across our learning environments this week. 💛

From imaginative play in Banya, to shared investigations in Barramul and Garuk, and exploring concepts of family, community, sustainability and the natural world in Wurrumuk! Each room’s learning looks a little different, reflecting the interests, ideas and curiosity of the children within it. 🫶🏻

At Goodstart Flora Hill, we use Key Educator Relationships to support children to develop secure, trusting and responsive relationships with their educators. 💛

A Key Educator takes the time to build a strong connection with your child and family, becoming familiar with their routines, interests and individual needs.

Research and attachment theory tell us that strong, consistent relationships can provide children with a secure base from which to explore their world. When children feel secure in their relationships, they are supported to develop the confidence to explore, play, take on new challenges and engage in learning. 🌱

While children develop relationships with many educators across our centre, our Key Educator approach places particular importance on consistency, emotional security and responsive relationships during these important early years. 💜

🌼 Spring has well and truely sprung 🪴

The changing season has brought lots of new discoveries to our Wurrumuk (Kinder) room, with spring sparking curiosity about plants, flowers and living things around us.

As children notice changes in the environment, their questions and ideas are becoming part of the learning. We’ve been exploring growing, gardening and composting, with books and hands-on experiences helping children investigate where things come from, how they grow and how we can care for our environment. 🌿

Our two Toddler rooms, Barramul and Garuk have been busy in the sandpit pouring, filling, mixing, creating and experimenting — exploring their own ideas, the ideas of others and enjoying uninterrupted time to play. 🙌🏻

Sometimes the best learning doesn’t need instructions — just time, space and imagination. 🤗

What does being safe in our playground look like through the eyes of our children? 👀

Our children have been sharing their ideas about how they can keep themselves, their friends and their environment safe while they play.

As we continue to embed the Paramount Considerations into our everyday practice — ensuring children’s safety, rights and best interests come first in the decisions we make — we are creating meaningful opportunities for children to have a voice in the decisions that affect them.

An important part of this is listening to children themselves. By listening to their ideas and perspectives, we can better understand what safety looks and feels like to our children and ensure their voices help shape our everyday practice.

Most importantly, children aren’t simply learning about safety — they are being heard, included and empowered to help shape a safe environment for themselves and others. 💛

🎨 From first marks to meaningful masterpieces 🎨

What does creativity look like in early childhood?

Sometimes it’s little hands discovering what paint feels like for the very first time.
Sometimes it’s experimenting with colour, tools and natural materials.
And sometimes it’s carefully studying a picture and finding your own way to recreate what you see. 💛

Across our learning environments, children are given opportunities to explore the creative arts in ways that reflect their age, interests, ideas and individual development.

And while the finished creations are beautiful, the real learning happens in the process.

As children paint, mix, dab, smear, observe and create, they’re developing fine-motor skills, sensory awareness, creativity, decision-making and confidence, while discovering new ways to communicate and represent their ideas. 🌱

From those very first exploratory marks to increasingly detailed representations, every creation tells us something about how a child is learning and making sense of their world. 🎨✨

👋 Meet our Banya Nursery Team

Meet Rachael, Ebony and Tracy, the wonderful educators who make up our Banya Nursery team. 💛

🌱 Rachael has been with Goodstart for an incredible 22 years and has led our Banya Nursery this year. Her warm and gentle approach helps create a nurturing environment where our children feel safe, secure and supported.

💛 Ebony has been part of our Flora Hill team for 3 years and has developed a beautiful understanding of the children in her care. Ebony knows all of their individual routines and needs, along with all the little things that help them feel safe, secure and connected in the learning environment.

🌼 Tracy has been part of our Flora Hill community for an amazing 16 years, building strong and genuine relationships with children and families throughout that time. Her caring nature and focus on what is best for each child make her a valued part of our Banya team.

Between Rachael and Tracy alone, they bring 38 years of experience with Goodstart to our community — something we are incredibly fortunate to have at Flora Hill. 💛

Together with Ebony, our Banya team brings experience, care, connection and consistency to our youngest children, creating a place where they can feel a strong sense of belonging. 🌱

💛 National Child Protection Week | Every Conversation Matters: Shifting Conversation to Action 💛

National Child Protection Week, shines a light on the important conversations that help children understand their rights, safety and voice.

🖐️ Our Kinder children recently explored the question, “Who can we talk to if we are not okay?” identifying the trusted people they can turn to for help, comfort or simply someone to listen.

For our younger children, these foundations begin through age-appropriate stories and everyday conversations about bodies, feelings, boundaries and safety.

Through Goodstart’s Feel Safe, Be Safe Protective Strategies, children are supported to understand two important messages:

💛 We all have the right to feel safe and be safe.
💛 We can talk to a trusted adult about anything.

While National Child Protection Week shines a light on the importance of keeping children safe, they’re part of our everyday practice, relationships and learning. 💛
