On Wednesday, 2nd September our Year 11 Student Councillors attended the Swan Young Changemakers Conference at the Pawsey Supercomputing Research Centre.
The conference brought together 4 students from each High School across the Federal electorate of Swan for a day of collaboration, innovation, and leadership. Students heard from inspiring speakers, engaged in interactive workshops, and discussed topics including climate change; environmental issues; housing costs; AI and job security to assist them in developing practical skills to help them create positive change within their school and community.

🍭Radio Lollipop🍭

During our Faction Carnival last Friday, the Student Council once again held their Radio Lollipop Sausage Sizzle Fundraiser and raffle, which proved to be hugely popular and a great success.

We are thrilled to share that an incredible $740 was raised, exceeding our expectations! All funds raised will be donated to Radio Lollipop, an international children’s charity that provides care, comfort, play and entertainment to young patients in hospitals.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Belmont Forum Centre Management, Coles Belmont Forum and Woolworths Belmont Forum for their generous donations and support, which helped make this event possible.

A special thank you also goes to our Student Council and the wider school community for their enthusiasm and generosity in supporting this wonderful cause. 👏

🚲 Learning to Ride! 🚲
What a fantastic start to our After-School Learn to Ride a Bike Course!
Students took part in the first session of our three-week program, supported by a qualified AusCycling coach. It wonderful to see so many happy and successful students building their confidence — with students who couldn’t ride independently at the start now riding their bikes! 🎉👏
There are still spaces available for the remaining sessions:
📅 Monday 14 & 21 September
⏰ 3:15–4:50pm
🚲 Bikes are provided if needed
🙌 AusCycling coach provided
No previous riding experience is needed. It’s a great opportunity for students to learn in a safe, supportive and fun environment.

💜 Wear it Purple Day 💜

On Thursday, 27th August we acknowledged ‘Wear it Purple’ Day to support LGBTQIA+ youth as allies in promoting safe, inclusive environments in schools, universities, and workplaces.

Staff and students wore purple and enjoyed a solo music performance and face painting at recess. Thank you to our Student Councillors for facilitating this.

Yesterday, our students took part in Write a Book in a Day, working together to create an original book from start to finish. 📚
We’re very proud to say that all three groups completed their books within the day! The finished stories will now be compiled and added to the Write a Book in a Day Online Library, as well as being shared in physical form with children undergoing treatment in hospitals across Australia.

A big congratulations to all of our students for their creativity, teamwork and commitment throughout the day. ✍️📖

Sponsorship is open until 30 September if you would like to support our students and this great cause. 🎊

Students enjoyed developing their hairdressing skills as part of a Career Taster opportunity at South Metropolitan TAFE’s Murdoch campus. ✨

Experiencing a day in a TAFE environment, students learned to use the tools of the trade and explored their creativity through practical styling activities. ⭐

Last week saw Belmont City College students celebrate Science Week.

🌱This year’s theme was “Seeds of Science: Nurturing knowledge for all”. Students engaged in a range of themed activities in classes, including designing, building and testing a flotation device for seed dispersal, growing crystals from a seed crystal, and making and planting seed bombs. 🔬

The Science Department also ran a “Guess the number of seeds in the jar” competition. Several hundred entries were submitted by students, who won a range of fun, science-themed prizes. 🏆

⭐A group of our Year 8 and 9 students were selected to attend the ABCN Emerging Leaders Program, hosted at Macquarie Bank in the Perth C*D.

Throughout the day, students explored the idea that an “everyday leader” is someone who leads through their actions. 👑

Working in small groups alongside industry mentors, students participated in a range of activities designed to build their communication, teamwork, problem-solving and decision-making skills. They were encouraged to reflect on their own strengths, consider the qualities of effective leaders, and develop confidence in expressing their ideas and working collaboratively with others. 👩‍🏫👨‍🏫

The program also gave students the valuable opportunity to connect with professionals in a corporate workplace, hear about their experiences and gain insight into how leadership skills can be applied at school, in the workplace and in everyday life. 👏
