Early mornings. Fresh grass. Cones out. Balls ready. ⚽️💜

Community coaching with Perth Glory FC is about more than football — it’s about creating opportunities, building confidence, and giving young players a place to belong.

Before the city fully wakes up, coaches and players are already out here putting in the work, learning new skills, sharing laughs, and growing their love for the game.

These sessions aren’t just about developing footballers… they’re about developing people. 💪

Grateful to be part of a club that continues to invest in the local community and inspire the next generation every single week. 🌅⚽️

Mid-game. A player ran over to me.

“Can I try the rainbow flick?”

I said yes.

He received the ball on the right wing, executed it perfectly, cut inside past the centre-back, and curled it into the top corner — one of the most remarkable goals I’ve ever seen.

I still think about what would have happened if I’d said no.

Not just the goal. But what it would have done to his confidence, his willingness to try again, his relationship with risk.

Coaching isn’t just structure and drills.

It’s creating the space for moments like that to exist.

That story — and the framework that makes it possible — is in my Ball Mastery coaching guide. 🔗 Link in bio.

Most coaches stop at dribbling. Here’s what you’re missing 👇

The Coerver model — used by Ajax, Barcelona, Real Madrid and 80% of professional academies worldwide — breaks Ball Mastery into 6 core components.

Most coaches only teach the first two.

01 → Dribbling — control the ball under pressure while moving
02 → Ball manipulation — both feet, all surfaces, close control
03 → Turns & direction change — Cruyff, drag-back, roll-over
04 → Feints & fakes — deception + technique + 1v1 confidence
05 → Combination play — individual skill connected to team patterns
06 → Progressive challenge — repetition that builds genuine instinct

The difference between a player who performs in training and one who performs in a game? Components 4, 5 and 6.

Save this for your next session plan 📌

The best coaches don’t just run sessions… they reflect, adapt, and evolve. 📈⚽️

“Coach Reflection Templates: A Thank You From The Players You Haven’t Met Yet” 📘⚽️

We constantly ask our players to reflect, learn, adapt, and grow…
But how often do we do the same as coaches? 🤔

Great coaching doesn’t just happen on the pitch. It happens after sessions, after games, after conversations, and in those moments where we honestly evaluate ourselves.

This book was created to help coaches take their reflection game to the next level:
✅ Session reflections
✅ Game analysis prompts
✅ Self-evaluation tools
✅ Planning and growth frameworks
✅ Space to think deeper about your impact as a coach

The title says it all…
“A thank you from the players you haven’t met yet.” 🙌

Because the work you put into improving yourself today will impact players for years to come.

If you grab a copy on Amazon, I’d genuinely love to hear your feedback once you’ve used it 📖✍️

🏆 The beauty of cup competitions…

One game. One moment. One chance to make history. ⚽️🔥

That’s what makes knockout football special.
The pressure.
The unpredictability.
The heartbreak. 💔
The glory. ✨

One week you’re celebrating with your team, dreaming big and riding the highs. The next, football reminds you how cruel the game can be. That’s the jeopardy of cup football — every pass, duel and decision matters.

But that’s why we love it. ❤️

Cup competitions create memories players never forget:
⚡ Giant killings
⚡ Last-minute winners
⚡ Penalty shootout drama
⚡ Heroes stepping up under pressure

It’s where character is tested and moments become stories.

As coaches and players, embracing those emotional swings is all part of the journey. Because without the risk of defeat… the taste of victory wouldn’t mean nearly as much. 🏅

⚽️✨ Reflecting on an awesome School Holiday Program and one of the players favourite activities… our 1v1 Skill Challenge! 🔥

Simple set up:
📏 24x36m area
🥅 Mini goals
🧍‍♂️ A mannequin on each side

Players attacked the mannequin using one of the skills and tricks learnt during our 1v1 Ball Mastery section earlier in the session 👣⚡️

The challenge… can you become a MAGICIAN? 🎩✨

1️⃣ Engage the audience (the defender)
2️⃣ Create the magic (feint/skill)
3️⃣ Deliver the illusion (explode into space)
4️⃣ Finish the performance (score the goal) 🎯⚽️

Loved seeing the confidence, creativity and bravery from the players to try new skills in game-like situations 👏

💬 What’s your favourite 1v1 skill move?
Elastico? Step over? Roulette? Body feint? 👀

🔍⚽ Ever wish you had an extra set of eyes on matchday?

Sometimes as coaches we get caught up in the emotion and flow of the game, making it difficult to see the full picture objectively. That’s where an outside perspective can make all the difference.

Today I’m working on a full SWOT Analysis for one of my coaches — identifying the team’s:

✅ Strengths
⚠️ Weaknesses
📈 Opportunities
🚨 Threats

The goal? To provide honest technical and tactical insight that can either confirm current approaches or help rethink and refine them ahead of future games.

Services available include:

🔎 Opposition Analysis
⚽ Pre-Big Game Reports
📊 Tactical & Technical Feedback

⚽️ Demonstration Session | South Perth United – Senior Men (Part 5)

In Part 5, we look at the progression from the 4v2+1 into a 6v4+4.

🔄 This was achieved by simply joining the two grids together — expanding the area, increasing the challenge, and creating a more game-realistic environment.

🎯 The focus of this progression was clear:
Move the ball from one end to the other by linking through the middle players — reinforcing our session theme of playing out from the back and connecting through midfield.

🧠 Contextualisation is crucial for player understanding. In my explanation, I:
• Identified player positions in relation to the new space
• Linked roles and movements back to the session objective
• Reinforced the success criteria so players knew exactly what good looked like

This helps players not just complete the activity, but understand why they are doing it and how it connects to the game.

💬 If there’s anything you’d like me to expand on or break down further, feel free to reach out.

❓ How do you introduce progressions while keeping clarity and purpose for your players?
