Daari Gumburr Cultural Camp 2026 🌿

From 26–28 August, seven of our Bellingen students had the wonderful opportunity to attend the Daari Gumburr Cultural Camp at Scotts Head, sharing three very special days with students from Frank Partridge VC PS, St Mary’s Bellingen, St Mary’s Bowraville, Macksville Public School, Urunga Public School, Repton Public School and Raleigh Public School.

The camp was packed with opportunities to connect with culture, Country and one another. Students listened to important cultural and local stories, and enjoyed walks along the beach and Scotts Head headland. There were plenty of laughs and friendly competition along the way too, including beach activities and sandcastle building.

Across the three days, students took part in an incredible variety of workshops and experiences such as dance and song, bush tucker and bush medicine, fishing, weaving, nature dyeing and shirt making, jewellery making with traditional materials, art workshops painting lip balm containers and Father’s Day gifts, Indigenous games and clap-stick making. There was also time for volleyball, handball, table tennis and simply enjoying being together making new friends.

Some particularly special moments came around the fire, sharing stories, enjoying meals (including some delicious Johnny cakes!), preparing for the final dance performance, and finishing Thursday with a formal dinner with a photoshoot.

More than anything, the camp was about connection! Connecting to culture and Country, learning from Elders, mentors and community, trying new things, and building strong friendships with students from schools across the area. β€οΈπŸ’›πŸ–€

A huge and heartfelt thank you to Uncle Ricky, Aunty Lisa, Nikki, and all of the mentors, teachers, cooks, facilitators, volunteers and everyone involved in organising and supporting the Daari Gumburr Camp. The time, knowledge, stories and care you shared with our students made these three days an experience they will remember for a long time.

What a wonderful few days of culture, learning, friendship and connection. πŸŒΏπŸ–€πŸ’›β€οΈ

Today we welcomed Bellingen High School’s SPARK class who worked with our Year 1 students to design and draw their very own toys.

The SPARK students will now use these designs to create the toys before returning later in the year to gift the finished creations back to their Year 1 designers!

We can’t wait to see their ideas come to life! 🎨🧸

πŸ”₯🌟 Year 6 Ignite Careers Day 🌟πŸ”₯

Last Friday, our Year 6 students had a fantastic time taking part in the Ignite Careers Day, getting a hands-on taste of some exciting future career pathways! πŸ™Œ

Students rotated through Commercial Cookery πŸ‘©β€πŸ³, Construction πŸ”¨, Automotive πŸš— and Nursing 🩺, learning new skills, asking questions and discovering where their interests might take them in the future.

It was also a great opportunity to meet and connect with Year 6 students from other schools across the region, some of whom they may see again next year at Bellingen High School. πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘‹

A huge thank you to Bellingen High School and Frieda Gorman for organising such a fun, engaging and inspiring day for our students. πŸ’™πŸ‘

A wonderful day of learning, exploring, making new connections and thinking about the future! πŸ”₯🌟
