Today our Year 4 students participated in the ‘Accendere’ retreat. They had a fantastic day exploring the theme of friendship through games, stories, Scripture, prayer and team building activities.

Today we started our exciting work with The Bellingen Men’s Shed. John and Saul came to visit out Garden Club members and looked at their chicken tractor designs. They have taken the designs back to the shed and we will soon hear how the children will be involved in the chicken tractor production process. Thanks also to Mrs Bennett who got the grant and prioritised shopping local.

Today the lemons were picked, juiced and made into our lemon cordial, ready for tomorrow’s St Vincent de Paul fundraiser. $1 per cup! Additionally the Turtle class students spoke to the school about how this event aims to serve others through both donating time and fundraising for those in need.

This Tuesday, the Stage 2 Turtle class will be holding a lemon cordial stall, with all money going to St Vinnies. Price = $1 per cup. This stall follows on from their work late last term, where the students explored the work and service of St Vincent de Paul and the op shop volunteers. The students then explored the Vinnies logo and website to figure out what they can do to help and came up with many great fundraiser ideas. Lemon cordial being the one containing school produce, minimal cost and more profit to be donated. The students enjoyed designing their posters, such as this one and placing them around the school.

Today we went down to our shared creek site and the students devoured their ice creams (thanks to our our show winnings from the Garden Club Scarecrow Competition). Due to the excellent weeding skills shown at our last session, we were delighted to see that the weeds hadn’t come back on the top side of the creek and our plantings are mostly thriving. We then returned to school to plant some lettuce seedlings, to soon use in our canteen wraps and salads.
