Congrats to ALL our competitors yesterday!!

It was a great day, I am very proud to see you guys getting out there and testing yourselves.

Think about it for a minute, most people never put themselves through such an intense experience. Dealing with nerves, and facing the clear reflection of where they’re at in such a raw form.

Huge props to you adults and kids that venture out into the unknown and return successful and full of new wisdom to share.

End-of-year grading day 🤍

I may not be the most knowledgeable teacher or the most successful competitor, but I can share what I’ve learned.

And I keep learning. I keep studying. I keep questioning how kids actually develop, physically, emotionally, socially.

So I can give them more than just moves on a mat. So I am not only an instructor but a coach.

What I’m proud of isn’t just what they can do in Jiu Jitsu.

It’s how they show up. How they listen. How they help each other. How they look after their opponents in a competition.

So proud of every student who stepped on the mat, and every family that trusts us with their kids.

Congrats on your belt & stripes, they are a reflection of all your hard work.

We’re just getting started.

What a great turn around for our weekly open mat & sparring followed by the Chess club this Saturday.

I feel proud to be a part of such an inspiring, supportive community. Feels like being a part of an awesome big family!

Shoutout to Alex from Dorrigo boxing for coming down and throwing hands, you’re a machine brother, glad we got to train together. You and your crew are always welcome.

Immensely proud of my boy Theo in receiving his first 2 stripes. 4 years old, a big personality and an even bigger heart.

Theo and I have been doing jiu jitsu since he was a tiny baby. He learn to pass guard at age 2, and did his first armbar on me at age 3. And now, after all these years of preparation he started joining the regular little kids classes I teach.

I’m excited to keep bringing him up in the sport, witnessing the benefits to his health, resilience, self esteem and capacity to team work and problem solve.

I love you and I’m proud of you beyond words for your efforts in getting out of your comfort zone, learning how to have fun even when you lose a game. Excited to see what the future holds for you.

A couple of months ago we had an incredible experience working in collaboration with .

We offered Brazilian Jiu Jitsu sessions to a fantastic group of kids with disability here in the Bellingen shire.

It was great to see how quickly the games we play translate to all levels of coordination and motor skill, while challenging them out of their comfort zone.

The kids were thrilled to be allowed such close proximity with each other and they took on the wrestling as if it was second nature, even though most of them had never done it in their lives.

They played, laughed and broke a serious sweat. They connected to each other like they never had before. Some seemed like “naturals” and others seemed more challenged, and their challenges were their crucible. I saw kids get into in mental loops and snap out of it immediately when the threat of a takedown appeared.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a GROUNDING practice like I have never experienced in my life. That’s because there is no other moment other than the PRESENT moment when you’re defending a choke or trying to take someone down. The practice brings practitioners right into their bodies.

This is what I mean when I say Jiu Jitsu is an ALL INCLUSIVE practice. The games and techniques can be tailored to suit just about anyone.

And after all of these benefits, this practice teaches self defence, which leads to real empowerment. Events like these have the potential to transform lives.

I am passionate about this work and I am happy see these kids having fun while finding out the power within their bodies and minds.

Thank you for putting this together and inviting us to be a part of it.
