EVER WANTED TO LEARN THE DRUMS? Come and learn from an expert!

Our resident Drums tutor, Dave, is a seasoned professional drummer who first picked up the sticks 28 years ago. He has recorded on several Australian records, including ARIA #1 albums and Australian country radio #1 singles. He tours regularly and records with artists both in Australia and overseas.

Dave’s love for the drums stems from his belief that they are the foundation of where a song needs to go.

“Drums play a big role in shaping the feel and direction of the music, which makes them really fun to play.”

While remote drumming sessions and playing in national and international shows keep Dave busy, he takes great joy in teaching and sharing his experience and knowledge with others.

“I really enjoy seeing students build confidence over time. Whether it’s learning their first beat or playing along to a full song, those small wins add up quickly. Every student is different, so it keeps things interesting and rewarding.”

Dave is offering FREE TRIALS (spots are limited) to anyone who is keen to give the Drums a go!

A recent article published in the Australian Association for Research in Education's EDURESEARCH MATTERS BLOG, underscores the importance and benefits of making time in the day to read for pleasure, and offering books reflecting a diverse range of identities and experiences.

We are proud to say that our Learning Commons team do a wonderful job of supporting and addressing both of these.

They run activities such as our annual Drop Everything and Read competition which challenges students to read for at least 10 minutes, ideally more, every day in Term 3, with prizes for individual students and classes who read the most. They run Book Club, and and a host of Book Week activities to keep students enthusiastic about reading.

Our Learning Commons also offers an extensive range of books featuring First Nations perspectives, diverse cultural backgrounds, LGBTIQA+ perspectives, characters with disability, and characters experiencing mental health challenges. This helps ensure every student can feel connected and represented in the reading materials available.

Speaking of SCIENCE (it is Science Week after all)—our Senior students have been busy with excursions lately, which is always a great way to enhance learning and understanding of particular topics.

Our Year 12 CHEMISTRY students took part in the Monash Organic Spectroscopy Symposium, where they stepped into the role of Chemical Detectives. Students used a range of instrumental analysis techniques, including infrared spectroscopy and proton NMR, to investigate and identify organic molecules.

Meanwhile, Year 11 CHEMISTRY students visited the Yarra Ranges Tech School (YRTS) to explore the powerful analytical technique of High Performance Liquid Chromatography. Students used this to investigate and compare the caffeine content of a range of coffees and teas, connecting their learning to real-world applications. They also had the opportunity to perform Thin Layer Chromatography, analysing the different pigments present in plant leaves and flowers.
