Celebrating National Science Week 2026! ๐๐๐งโ๐ฌ
Helicopter Experience !
On Monday 17 August, our Science Week celebrations took flight with an exciting aviation experience for students across the school.
During Periods 1 and 2, Science classes participated in presentations delivered by Cran Middlecoat โ โThat Pilot Guyโ. Cran shared his knowledge and experience of all things aviation, including the many career pathways available in the industry. Did you knowโฆ that you can learn to fly an aircraft before you can get your driverโs licence!
Then, in Period 3, the whole school ventured out to the oval to watch Mrs Squires and Mr Day arrive in style, landing a helicopter right on the school oval!
Our very lucky Year 9 and 11 STEAM Ambassadors were then given an exclusive opportunity to get up close and personal with the pilots and aircraft. Students were able to sit inside the helicopter, take photos and even put on the headset to experience what it might feel like to be in the pilotโs seat.
It was a fantastic way to bring science, technology, engineering, and real-world career opportunities to life for our students, and an unforgettable way to kick off Science Week!
A huge thank you to Cran Middlecoat, the helicopter pilot, and all staff who helped make the day such a success. ๐๐ฌ
STEM Fest!
On Tuesday 18 August, Beenleigh SHS continued its National Science Week celebrations with our STEM Fest afternoon! Students, families and staff explored a range of hands-on science activities across the Science Block, including seed-themed activities, using microscopes, science demonstrations and more.
A big thank you to Bunnings Bethania for their generous donation and for joining us on the afternoon. Our guests particularly loved decorating their own flowerpots and planting seeds to take home and grow!
It was a fantastic afternoon of curiosity, discovery and hands-on learning, and a great opportunity to showcase the fun and excitement of STEM within our school community. A big thank you to our science staff, students and community members!
