🔬 A Fremantle College First!

Congratulations to Year 11 students Cassandra and Akira, who have been selected to attend the prestigious National Youth Science Forum (NYSF) Year 12 Program. This is the first time Fremantle College students have earned places in the program!

Cassandra will travel to Canberra, while Akira will head to Brisbane for the nine-day experience, staying on university campuses and immersing themselves in the world of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

They’ll tour leading science and technology facilities, discover cutting edge research, meet industry and research professionals and explore the many study and career pathways available in STEM.

A huge thank you to the Rotary Club of Fremantle and Rotary Club of Attadale for generously sponsoring the students to take part in this incredible opportunity.

What an achievement. Congratulations Cassie and Akira! We can’t wait to hear about your experiences.

Subject Selection Online (SSO) for Year 10, 2027 opens at 7.00pm on Wednesday 26 August.

We encourage students and families to take some time to explore the available options together and consider the subjects that best align with their interests, strengths and future goals.

🏀 Year 7 Basketball Lightning Carnival

Last week, our Year 7 boys proudly represented Fremantle College at their first Basketball Lightning Carnival.

After a challenging start to the day, the boys rallied brilliantly, finishing with three strong wins and narrowly missing out on a place in the finals.

More importantly, the team demonstrated fantastic sportsmanship, determination and resilience throughout the competition, representing the College with pride.

A special thank you to our senior student helpers who stepped up to assist with coaching, umpiring and scoring throughout the day. Your leadership and support were greatly appreciated.

Bookings for our upcoming Parent Teacher Interviews will open today through Compass, so keep an eye out for the Compass email with all the details.

Parent Teacher Interviews will be held at Fremantle College on Wednesday 2nd of September, providing families with an opportunity to meet with teachers and discuss their child’s progress.

Parents and carers can book their preferred interview times via Compass, with instructions provided to help navigate the booking process.

A reminder to our students and families that Book Week dress up day is happening next Wednesday!

This year’s theme is Symphony of Stories, so it’s time to raid the cupboards and get creative with the fabric, cardboard, glue, glitter and gaffa tape.

Come dressed as a favourite character, author or even a songwriter who knows how to tell a great story. From Harry Potter to David Bowie, Miss Havisham to Harry Styles, the possibilities are endless!

🎶 SPECIALIST MUSIC PROGRAM - SOLD OUT GIG at Clancy’s! 🎶

What a night! Our Fish, Beats & Eats student gig at Clancy’s Fish Pub Fremantle was officially SOLD OUT, with a packed house coming together to support our talented young musicians.

Serendipity, Seventy/Thirty and Whippets on Love each took to the stage and absolutely delivered. Seeing our students perform to a full venue, surrounded by family, friends, fellow students and members of our wider community was pretty special.

A huge thank you to the wonderful duo, Mike Gowland, Head of Specialist Music, and Angus Dawson, who together run our incredible Specialist Music Program. The opportunities, guidance and support they give our young musicians extend well beyond the classroom, and nights like this show just how much that matters.

Thank you also to everyone who bought a ticket, came along for dinner, cheered on our bands and helped make the night such a success. And of course, thank you to Clancy’s for continuing to support live music and our students.

🔬 National Science Week | Science in Action

As part of National Science Week, our students welcomed researchers from Murdoch University’s Harry Butler Institute to discover the innovative Spyvalve Project.

Students learnt how magnetic sensors attached to mussels can monitor their response to changing environmental conditions, essentially turning these remarkable animals into living indicators of water quality.

It was a fascinating example of this year’s Seeds of Science theme in action, showing how curiosity, observation and a clever idea can grow into research with genuine real world impact.

A big thank you to Dr Al Cottingham, Keira Gordon and Pauline Charman for sharing their research with our students and opening their eyes to the exciting possibilities a future in science can offer.

đź“Ł Student Voice Nominations Are Open!

Student Voice is looking for new representatives to join our student leadership team for Term 4 and into 2027.

Student Voice gives students the opportunity to represent their peers, share ideas, help shape College life and strengthen the connection between students, staff and our wider community.

Want to nominate?
Nomination forms are available from Student Services or attached to the Compass notice. Students will need the support of a parent or caregiver and a staff member.

Eligible candidates will then work with our Digital Media team to create a one-minute video introducing themselves and why they would make a great representative. Students will vote for their preferred candidates within their year group, with five representatives selected for each year group.

đź“… Nominations close at the end of Week 5.

Successful representatives will be notified in Week 2 of Term 4, with Student Voice meetings commencing in Week 3.
