We're delighted to share that our inaugural Birali Bush Dance Fundraiser is taking place next Saturday!

With live music and dancing, family-friendly games and plenty of community spirit, it's sure to be a fun-filled evening while supporting our school. Food and refreshments will also be available throughout the evening, including a sausage sizzle, light snacks, and non-alcoholic drinks.

One of the ways that Birali students learn social-emotional skills is through our school's weekly virtues.

Their Teachers introduce the Virtue each week in a creative and purposeful way suited to each age group.

The virtues become integrated into literacy lessons as well as helping students understand positive actions and thoughts and the benefits they bring to their personal growth, relationships, and overall wellbeing.

The school uses the Virtue Project by Linda Kavelin Popovas as our resource for this program.

National Science Week is occurring this week, an annual Australian celebration for all things science.

Science is explored within the Steiner Curriculum through the "phenomenological approach", meaning the idea is observed through a phenomenon. The students first observe the phenomenon, then a day or two later the Class recalls and engages in the experience, deepening their natural curiosity to figure out and understand the concept or scientific law behind the phenomenon. Their understanding is deepened further with the concept explored through artistic expression where the students record their observations in their Main Lesson books with drawings, diagrams, and descriptive writing.

Early Childhood Science is explored informally through the wonder of the world around them. Children can experience this through water runs, engaging with the nature of water and how gravity and different obstacles can change the course.

Science comes alive in Primary through the study of farming, gardening and practical work. As children sow seeds, care for the soil, observe plants growing and learn about the rhythms of animals and the farm, they are experiencing Science in a very real and meaningful way.

As the students expand their learning into High School, Science is all about wonder, awe and discovery. The students are introduced to hands-on chemistry and physics experiments investigating acoustics, optics and heat, as well as electromagnetism, anatomy and mechanics.

Preparations are well underway for our much-anticipated Class 5 Greek Olympics, which will take place later this week.

We are excited to be welcoming students from Cairns Hinterland Steiner School Noosa Pengari Steiner School and Samford Valley Steiner School for this special two-day event, and with so many athletes attending, there will be plenty of hungry competitors to feed! Class 5 students have been busy preparing ingredient packs for our wonderful parent volunteers, who will be taking them home to create delicious Greek-inspired dishes for everyone to enjoy and share.

Our Maintenance team has also been hard at work preparing the competition areas, including Ash and the team from Hallco Contracting helping to prepare the running tracks, making sure they are ready for the event.

Our weekly Parent Craft group have also been busy arranging wreaths for some of our participants by wet felting hand made felt to make leaves which were then wound around jasmine vines.

Meanwhile, our Class 5 Olympians have been training diligently for many weeks and are eagerly anticipating the opportunity to represent their teams. Through the events, they will strive to demonstrate the qualities celebrated in the ancient Greek Olympics: strength, beauty, grace, teamwork, and perseverance.
