In Week 4, some of our Bean to Bar students were fortunate to be invited to a hands-on chocolate-making experience at Champion Bay Senior High School

The Head of Technologies, Mrs Sue MacDonald, shared her experiences as a pastry chef and chocolatier, checked students’ existing knowledge of chocolate, and passed on her expertise in the chocolate-making process. Students eagerly engaged in the activities, made a bit of a mess, and proudly presented their final creations.

Once again, thank you to Mrs MacDonald and Mrs Lydon for making this experience possible for our Year 5 & 6 PEAC students.

Wait, what do dots and numbers have to do with robots?

This group of students started their robotics journey today. From brainstorming what robots are and how they possibly work to unplugged coding and building their mBots. It has been a pretty busy day.

Our Bean to Bar journey has begun! 🍫🌍

Students discovered where cocoa beans come from, explored how chocolate is made, took a critical look at different chocolate companies, and worked out how the UN Sustainability Goals may fit into this journey. Finally, they finished the day by donning their chocolatier hats to taste‑test a variety of chocolate types and brands.

A proud parent shared this with us this morning. Three of the boys are current PEAC students.

These boys, of their own initiative, decided they wanted to help clean out the bottom of the ocean floor at the Port Jetty.

They did it all by their own ingenuity and muscle with rope, pulley and hook systems as well free diving down to attach the objects. This was achieved with negligible supervision and assistance.

The Fruits of thy labour were 2 large witches hats, a large sign frame, 3 shopping trolleys and a Beam Scooter.

These were then pushed to the start of the jetty walk and CGG contacted for collection and disposal.

A great morning's work and a ton of fun.

Social consciousness, Community service and environmental protection, complimented by intelligence, creativity and a little hard yakka.

Congrats and kudos to these boys.

Last term, we had three teams participate in the 2026 Synergy Solar Car Challenge.

One of our teams managed to race into second place. With only one day of preparation, they held their ground brilliantly!

It was fabulous to bump into previous PEAC students who competed in a higher year level.

Well done to all teams, and a special congratulations to Claire, Oscar and Pippa.

Does practice make perfect?
Is heart disease different for women and men?
Do you get more juice from a lemon when you heat it in the microwave?

These were a few of the myths we investigated today. This group’s assignment this term is to determine what’s fact and what’s fiction by researching their own myths, designing experiments to test them, and finding ways to collect reliable data.

We also had a special visitor — the Director of Education for the Midwest — who asked our students questions about their investigation findings.

• bring their group on a bespoke learning adventure; or
• design a custom STEM tech or equipment pack.

We prioritise opportunities for young people who identify as being from at least one of these groups:
• Girls
• Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students
• Regional or lower opportunity areas.

Yesterday, girls from nine different primary schools came together to brainstorm potential community issues and develop solutions for one of them. Their teamwork, collaboration, and creativity were truly inspiring!

Some of our PEAC girls, along with a select group of Year 6 students from around town, participated in this girls‑only event. The Academy for Enterprising Girls—an innovative entrepreneurship program created by Young Change Agents, a not‑for‑profit social enterprise—helps young people from all backgrounds view problems as opportunities through social entrepreneurship.

It has been a BIG week here at PEAC Midwest!

We started off the new school year with our annual camp for our regional PEAC students right here in Geraldton.

We got to know each other by working on our collaboration skills and creative thinking. Everyone challenged themselves by taking part in activities such as bike riding (16km in two days!), dragon boating, kayaking, sandcastle competitions, creating unique tie dye shirt designs, playing checkers, testing our knowledge at trivia, shooting arrows and climb walls.

It has been a busy but fantastic start to our 2026 PEAC journey.

This term, our Kidpreneurs worked incredibly hard to create their own businesses.

From generating business names, designing logos, conducting market surveys and SWOT analyses, composing business plans, calculating start-up and product/service costs, to making and fabricating products — they did it all!

They then presented their businesses to a critical board of "sharks" in true Shark Tank style.

It was a wonderful experience to see each student embrace the challenge and come up with amazing ideas. I hope this is just the beginning, and we’ll see them showcasing their ventures at our local markets in the future.
