Hillcrest Primary School

Hillcrest Primary School Hillcrest Primary School is the school of choice for our families. Come and visit us! They meet fortnightly to prioritise assistance and allocate resources.

Hillcrest Primary School was founded in 1950 and is situated on the crest of a hill overlooking the City of Bayswater. Tracing its history to before establishment the local Wadjuk people used the distinctive bush setting and sweeping views as a gathering place to share food and impart the wisdom and knowledge of crafting tools, spears and cooking implements. This relationship with Noongar Land is

recognised in the naming of our key buildings and areas. The most notable is our Administration opened in 2016 which is proudly inscribed with the words 'Malya-Ba Mia' signifying our 'Place of Learning'. Our learning community currently has 430 students with enrolments expected to grow in coming years as new families enter the school's intake area reflecting a shift in community demographics. Experienced, caring and dedicated staff work closely with parents as essential partners in creating a learning environment that encourages students to realise their full educational, social, physical and creative potential. Continuous improvement of curriculum delivery is supported through collaboration within phase of development teams. Working closely together, staff are supported by educational experts and specialist teachers providing instruction in Media Arts, Music, Physical Education, Sustainabilty and Japanese LOTE. In addition, a team of highly qualified support staff provide greater assistance with differentiating the curriculum for students. The Learning Intervention Focus Team or LIFT assists teachers with identification and support of students requiring curriculum divergence and enrichment. As a Positive Behaviour School our Hillcrest STARR (Safety, Teamwork, Achievement, Respect & Responsibility) program acknowledges and celebrates students that embrace 'Wargado' the school motto meaning 'Seek to Achieve'. Through co-operation and participation, children acquire fundamental skills and knowledge to prepare them for a productive and successful future. Parents are extensively involved supporting Hillcrest financially through P & C operation of the canteen, uniform shop and many exciting and well sponsored fundraising events. The School Board is strongly represented by active and informed community members who effectively guide and promote decision making. Community partnerships with a substantial number of local organisations and personalities generously enhance the success of school and extra curricula programs. These include our Sustainability initiatives, Nature Play development, Breakfast Club, Before After and Vacation School Care, Health and Fitness Groups as well as a collection of After School Community Sports. As a local school of choice, enrolments for the newly refurbished Early Childhood Centre located onsite is often competitive. New families to the area are strongly encouraged to complete an expression of interest for kindergarten placement well in advance of the advertised closing date to ensure your child is successfully catered for in our early year's program.

💛❤️Education Assistant Appreciation Week ❤️💛

This week we are celebration the incredible Education Assistants who are such an important part of the Hillcrest community.

Our mainstream and special needs education assistants truly are the heart and soul of Hillcrest. They support our students, our teachers and each other every single day, often working quietly behind the scenes to make sure everything runs smoothly.

Their patience, compassion, flexibility, humour and willingness to step in wherever they are needed makes an enormous difference to our school and most importantly to our students.

Today at morning tea each of our EAS received a special award recognising their own individual strengths and the unique contribution they make to Hillcrest.

We are incredibly lucky to have such a dedicated and caring team. Thank you for everything you do – Hillcrest simply wouldn’t be the same without you!

📚 BOOK WEEK 2026 📚

What a fantastic morning, despite the rain, for our annual Book Week Parade!

The costumes were absolutely amazing, and it was wonderful to see so many of our favourite book characters come to life around Hillcrest. We had plenty of Very Hungry Caterpillars, a colourful collection of crayons that wanted to quit, lots of Mr. Men and Little Miss characters, and so many other clever and creative costumes.

A huge well done to all of our students, staff and families for getting into the Book Week spirit and making this morning so much fun. ❤️📖

There really is nothing better than seeing our school filled with a love of books, stories and imagination!

This is going to be fun! Dean from Carnaby’s Crusaders is visiting in our undercover area next week. Parents and caregivers are welcome between 9am and 10.45am on Wednesday 2nd September 2026. We have two fabulous incursions next week to celebrate Science Week. This one has been organised with the Sustainability team - our wonderful parents who have planted our grounds with Carnaby’s favourite food trees. Working to save an endangered species from extinction ❤️
