TAFE NSW Baulkham Hills was proud to attend the NAIDOC event hosted by The Hills Shire Council.
I had the privilege of meeting a respected Elder from the Darug Nation and was honoured to listen to his stories and learn more about the rich cultural heritage of the local area.
It was wonderful to see Mayor Michelle Byrne and members of the community come together to celebrate this important occasion. The event featured cultural performances, an inspiring art exhibition, and opportunities for community connection and reflection.
Thank you to The Hills Shire Council for hosting such a meaningful celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, histories, and achievements.

What an incredible day at TAFE NSW Baulkham Hills as we hosted our recent Pathways Event, bringing together students, local employers, service providers, and TAFE NSW representatives to help create opportunities for future success.
The event provided our students to connect directly with local job opportunities, explore further education pathways, and learn about the support services available within our community. Beyond the valuable information and networking opportunities, the day was filled with great energy, delicious food thanks to our hospitality learners, live entertainment, and plenty of dancing. It was wonderful to see students engaging, building confidence, making connections, and most importantly, enjoying themselves.
A big thank you to all the organisations, employers, service providers, and staff who contributed to making the event such a success. Together, we are helping our students build brighter futures and stronger connections within the community.
Thank you Lakeview Private, SES, Police - Castle Hill , MEGT, Service NSW, CMRC, Hills Community Aid, TfNSW, TAFE Manufacturing Centre of Excellence, and our Counsellor.

This is Sadaf’s story✨
In Afghanistan, Sadaf was studying Diplomacy and Arabic Literature until 2021, when women were banned from attending university.
“It was like building a city for years and then suddenly losing it all,” she said. “I lost my right to study.” Forced to flee with her family, Sadaf arrived in the Hunter region of NSW in 2024 determined to rebuild her future.
Through the Adult Migrant English Program (AMEP), she regained her confidence and developed her English skills, taking the first step toward her dreams. She enrolled in the Certificate IV in Tertiary Preparation (11225NAT), balancing study, part-time work and life in a new country. 🎓
Her dedication paid off. Sadaf graduated in the top 10 students across NSW: “When I got my results, it felt like all the challenges paid off at once. I’m proud I didn’t give up.” ✨
Today, Sadaf is enrolled in the Open Foundation program at the University of Newcastle (a pathway program), with the ultimate goal of studying Pharmacy. She also recently received the Student of the Year Award in the Equity, Foundation Skills and Aboriginal Culture and Languages category at the 2026 TAFE NSW Student Excellence Awards. 💪
This Refugee Week, we celebrate the strength, resilience and potential behind every story. Every journey matters and this is just one of a million. 💛
Learn more about the AMEP and Tertiary Preparation courses via the links in the comments.
The Adult Migrant English Program (AMEP) is funded by the Australian Government Department of Home Affairs, and provides free English lessons and childcare to eligible migrants and refugees.
