Winter School Holiday Fun
During the Winter School Holidays, the children enjoyed a variety of exciting excursions and participated in enriching activities, including events in celebration of NAIDOC Week.
Some of the highlights included:
Elsa and Anna Show at The Vineyard: The children were delighted by a live performance featuring their favourite characters, Elsa and Anna, in a magical and interactive show.
NAIDOC Week Activities at Bella Vista Farm: We took part in meaningful cultural experiences, including a traditional smoking ceremony, a yarning circle, and symbolic artwork on boomerangs.
NAIDOC Week Celebrations at Balcombe Heights Estate: Organised by Hills Community Aid, this event featured the raising of the Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander, and Australian flags, a smoking ceremony, sensory play, arts and crafts, and face painting using traditional Indigenous symbols.
Magic Show at the Hudson Hotel: The children were thoroughly entertained by a magician who amazed us with his tricks and even taught us a few of his secrets.
Excursion to Kellyville Pets and The Ettamogah: We explored a fascinating reptile show where the children had the opportunity to interact with various animals, including holding a lizard and a crocodile.
This holiday period provided our children with opportunities for fun, learning, and cultural connection in a memorable and engaging way.

We hit up the Family Fun Day courtesy of The Hills Community Aid and it was an absolute blast! The children had the time of their lives bouncing around in the jumping castle, getting the lowdown on the SES, whipping up Easter crafts and spraying down cones with a fire hose. And the cherry on top? A surprise drop-in by some superheroes!

The children at Mini Gems went on an exciting excursion to Summit Care to spend time with the wonderful residents there! This visit is a chance to bring joy, share stories, and make new friends with the elderly members of our Community.
During our time there, we:
π©· Chat and listened to some interesting stories from the residents.
π©· Engaged in fun activities like colouring in and playing games.
π©· Spread happiness through songs, smiles and laughter.

This spring holiday Mini Gems went of lots of adventures, from Building their own bear at the Build A Bear workshop held at The Grove shopping centre to going to the Hudson Hotel for a reptile show, where they got to see different types of lizards, snakes , spiders and they even got to hold a carpet python.
We also went to the Koala Park Sanctuary, where they explored different animals, learning about facts about each animal. They even got up close to feed a kangaroo, sheep's and goats.

The children's interest in farm animals was leveraged to develop their counting, number recognition, and fine motor skills. The activity involved counting dots on cards to determine the correct number of spoons to feed the animal depicted on each card.

To build upon the children's interest in farm animals, we planned a trip to Golden Ridge Animal Farm. There, they had the opportunity to pet rabbits, chickens, and ducklings, as well as feed baby goats and calves. Additionally, they collected eggs directly from the nesting boxes, providing them with a comprehensive understanding of the source of milk and eggs.

Yesterday, the children were thrilled to join in on the National Simultaneous Storytime. We read 'Bowerbird Blues' by Aura Parker and further explored the tale by making blue cobalt collages and enjoying a game of 'I Spy' to locate all the items discovered by the Bowerbird.
