Take a guided tour through five decades of Kelso history—explore archives, see memorabilia and celebrate those who shaped our school. 2026 Student Leadership Team Farewell Dinner Celebrates a Year of Outstanding Achievement

Our Year 9 Drama students have truly extended themselves this term through their Physical Theatre unit! Physical Theatre is a style of performance that communicates ideas, emotions and stories primarily through the body and movement, rather than relying heavily on spoken dialogue. It can incorporate mime, gesture, facial expression, dance, spatial awareness and ensemble work to create powerful theatrical moments. As part of their assessment, students were challenged to choreograph and perform their own original performance piece to a chosen song. They explored a range of Physical Theatre techniques, including mime, neutral masks and dance ensembles, requiring them to work collaboratively, experiment creatively and communicate meaning through movement. It has been fantastic to see students take creative risks, build confidence and develop their ability to work as an ensemble. Their commitment, imagination and willingness to push themselves have made for one impressive and engaging performance.

Bathurst High Campus Teachers Shine at Professional Learning Afternoon

At Bathurst High Campus, our commitment to fostering effective teaching practices is unwavering. Recently, our dedicated teachers came together for an enriching professional learning afternoon focused on Chunking and Sequencing within Explicit Teaching. During this collaborative session, educators worked in small groups to refine their skills in breaking down lesson content into manageable chunks and sequencing it strategically to enhance student comprehension. A standout element of the workshop was the emphasis on integrating regular checks for understanding throughout lessons. This approach ensures teaching is responsive and continually adapted to meet student needs, promoting deeper learning. The collective efforts witnessed during this afternoon exemplify our staff’s passion for professional growth and their dedication to improving student outcomes through evidence-based practices. These advances in explicit teaching not only elevate teacher performance but also create more engaging and effective learning experiences for our students. We extend our heartfelt thanks and congratulations to Matt Baillie and Nic Williams for their leadership and expert facilitation during the session. Their contributions were instrumental in the success of this valuable professional development. Celebrating Heidi Ballas – A Rising Star at Bathurst High Campus

We are proud to highlight the achievements of one of our outstanding Year 10 students at Bathurst High Campus, Heidi Ballas, who recently made a remarkable impression at the Oberon Business Awards held on 4th September. Heidi was nominated as a finalist in the competitive “Service with a Smile” category, a testament to her dedication and positive attitude in the workplace. Although she did not take home the award, Heidi demonstrated great sportsmanship by graciously congratulating the winner, a colleague from IGA. Her employer also praised Heidi’s nomination, recognising her exceptional work ethic and noting what an impressive accomplishment it is for someone so young, just 15 years old, to be acknowledged at such a significant local event. The evening was further honoured by the presence of the Hon. Paul Toole, who offered encouraging words to all nominees, inspiring young talents like Heidi to continue striving for excellence. Heidi’s achievement is a shining example of the hard work and community spirit fostered at Bathurst High Campus. We congratulate her on this well-deserved recognition and look forward to seeing her future successes!

Celebrating 20 Years: Bathurst High School’s Class of 2006 Reunion

On a heartfelt and memorable day in Bathurst, the Class of 2006 came together to mark 20 years since their graduation from Bathurst High School. The reunion was a special occasion, not only to celebrate their achievements and friendships but also to reflect on the significant changes since their school days. Shortly after their graduation, Bathurst High School joined forces with Kelso High School to form Denison College, marking a new chapter in local education. Despite these changes, the bonds formed at Bathurst High remained strong among the former students. Around 20 members of the Class of 2006 enjoyed a nostalgic slow walk through their old school grounds, rekindling memories and sharing stories. The tour was enriched by current school principal Ken Barwick OAM, himself a former Bathurst High student from the class of 1987. Ken captivated the group with engaging stories of the school's rich history and updates on its present-day successes, creating a bridge between past and present. After their walk down memory lane, the former students gathered with a larger crowd at The Greens on William. This lively celebration was filled with laughter, camaraderie, and a shared sense of pride in their journey from school days to today. The Class of 2006 reunion was a wonderful reminder of the enduring connections formed at Bathurst High School and the vibrant community that continues to grow within Denison College. We thank all who joined in making this milestone celebration so special and look forward to many more occasions that bring our school community together.

Run Club Celebrates Continued Growth and Milestone Achievements

The Bathurst High Campus Run Club has reached an exciting new milestone, with student participation surpassing 70 runners on Wednesday, 16th September 2026! This incredible growth is a testament to the enthusiasm and dedication of our students and the amazing support from staff and the community. A special highlight of the day was the fantastic Rocky BBQ, kindly supplied by our famous General Assistant Rocky, which fuelled the runners and added a festive atmosphere to the river course. Many students have now completed more than 20 laps of the 2.2km Macquarie River circuit, proudly achieving their first-ever Bathurst High Marathon - a huge congratulations to all those who reached this impressive feat! The Run Club will continue to thrive with the next session scheduled for Wednesday, 23rd September 2026, supported once again by our generous sponsors, Kelso Fruit Market. Following the school holidays, the Run Club plans to return with extended hours to offer even more opportunities for students to get active and involved. A heartfelt thank you goes to all the students, staff, families, and community members who make the Run Club such a vibrant and positive part of Bathurst High. We look forward to welcoming more students - whether from Bathurst High or other schools - to join us every Wednesday afternoon at 4:00pm by the river. Celebrating Our TeachNSW Rural Scholars at Bathurst High Campus

We are delighted to shine a spotlight on our outstanding TeachNSW Rural Scholars at Denison College of Secondary Education, Bathurst High Campus. This year, the Department’s Media Unit selected our campus to help launch the 2026 TeachNSW Rural Scholarship Program, showcasing the incredible achievements and dedication of our future teachers. Our talented scholars - Sarah Penfold, Chris Chacos, Annalea Gill, Caleb Gill, and Aidan Richards, were interviewed and filmed as part of this exciting promotion. The videos have now been released, featuring our staff and shining a well-deserved spotlight on our school and rural community. Aidan Richards, in particular, stands out for his exceptional promotion of Bathurst High Campus and our vibrant rural town. His story powerfully highlights the unique experiences and opportunities that come with teaching in regional areas.

About the teach.Rural Scholarship
If you are planning to complete, or are currently completing, an initial teacher education degree, apply for the teach.Rural Scholarship. Those studying to become a secondary mathematics, science (must include 2 science subjects, one of which must be chemistry or physics), technological and applied studies (TAS) or an inclusive/special education (K - 12) teacher are encouraged to apply.
The teach.Rural Scholarship provides financial support of up to $7,500 (subject to tax) per year whilst studying full-time (pro-rata for part-time study), equivalent course contribution fees of up to $50,000* (subject to tax), a $6,000 (subject to tax) appointment allowance and a permanent position in a rural or remote NSW public school following successful completion of studies. Scholars may also be eligible for a $500 (subject to tax) per week rural practicum allowance (up to $5,000 subject to tax).

Year 10 Food Technology Students Shine with Viral Dot Cake Challenge

Leanne Batchelor’s Year 10 Food Technology class recently embarked on an exciting culinary adventure by exploring contemporary food trends through the viral Dot Cake challenge. This hands-on project allowed students to showcase their practical skills in a creative and engaging way. The students enthusiastically embraced the challenge, carefully following the techniques required to create the distinctive dotted design that has captured the imagination of bakers everywhere. Throughout the process, they honed essential skills in food preparation, decorating, and presentation. It was truly inspiring to witness the students’ excitement as their cakes came together layer by layer. Their sense of achievement was evident as they proudly admired their beautifully finished creations, reflecting both their technical growth and artistic flair. This activity not only immersed students in a current food trend but also provided a valuable opportunity to build confidence in their practical abilities. Congratulations to Leanne Batchelor’s class for their creativity, dedication, and outstanding results in this delicious learning experience!

Celebrating Athletic Excellence: Congratulations to Iydian Rue!

Last week, Bathurst High Campus proudly cheered on one of our outstanding athletes, Iydian Rue, who competed at the CHS Athletics Championships in Sydney. Among many talented students representing our school, Iydian showcased her speed and determination by competing in both the 200m on Wednesday and the 100m on Friday. While Iydian didn’t secure a medal this time, she achieved a fantastic personal milestone by setting a new personal best in the 100m, finishing her week on a high note. Iydian was incredibly proud to represent not only Bathurst High Campus but also her region, competing alongside other classified athletes from across New South Wales. Her family, as well as our staff and fellow students, share immense pride in her achievements and the valuable experience she gained competing at such a high level.
We look forward to sharing more stories and updates about other Bathurst High athletes who took part in this prestigious event very soon. Stay tuned as we continue to celebrate the hard work and success of our school community!
