Walking Together in Faith: CEDB Staff Spirituality Day

Staff from the CEDB recently gathered for a Staff Spirituality Day, providing an important opportunity for prayer, reflection, professional connection and spiritual renewal. Facilitated by Samuel Clear, the day explored the theme, “Walking with leaders, educators and communities toward unity, purpose & courageous love.”

Samuel shared the story of his extraordinary journey of faith. Between 2006 and 2008, he walked 15,636 kilometres around the world, praying for the complete unity of the Church. The journey was recognised as the eleventh-longest on-foot journey in history. His experience offered a powerful reflection on perseverance, faith, unity and the importance of being willing to take the next step on our journey.

Staff participated in a range of activities, and there were opportunities for personal reflection and reflective prayer. The day was a meaningful reminder that, as a Catholic Education community, we are called to walk together in faith, supporting one another and the communities we serve with unity, purpose and courageous love.

Capturing the Wonder of Christmas

Last Friday, students, families, and teachers from across the Diocese gathered at Cathedral Catholic Primary School for the annual Christmas Storytelling Art Liturgy and Exhibition.

Led by Bishop Michael McKenna and featuring beautiful music from local Catholic primary school choirs, the event celebrated the faith and creativity of our Year 5 and 6 students.

This year saw an amazing 200 entries, with 20 students taking home awards for their outstanding artworks and thoughtful written reflections.

A huge congratulations and thank you to everyone who made this inspiring celebration of faith and art such a success!

Sacred Heart Coolah Dedicates Yarning Circle to Local Aboriginal Tribes

Clear blue skies marked a historic spring day at Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School Coolah as they officially opened their new Memorial Yarning Circle.

Dedicated to the Wiradjuri and Kamilaroi peoples, the space honours an Aboriginal resting place located at the rear of the school—a discovery confirmed in 2022 following ground-penetrating radar.

In the 1800s and early 1900s, local Aboriginal communities faced immense hardship, hunger, and illness, including the Spanish Flu. Recognizing that truth-telling is essential to genuine reconciliation, the school community partnered with the Gilgandra Local Aboriginal Lands Council, local historians, the Catholic Education Diocese of Bathurst, and Heritage NSW to document and respect this sacred site.

This new space gives students, staff, and community a place to sit, listen, learn the true history of the Coolah region, and walk forward together as active allies.

🙌 Emmanuel Worship Visits CEDB! 🎶✨

We were thrilled to recently welcome back Emmanuel Worship for an incredible week of faith formation and youth engagement across the Catholic Education Diocese of Bathurst!

From the iRise Formation workshops for our High School students to joyful Praise and Worship sessions for Years 5 & 6, students from across the diocese gathered in Dubbo and Bathurst to connect, worship, and grow in faith together.

This cherished, multi-year partnership remains a standout highlight on our annual calendar, and we extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Emmanuel Worship team for their ongoing dedication to empowering our students and enriching the spiritual life of our school communities. 🎶🙏

🏆SHEEP SHOW CHAMPIONS!🏆

Congratulations to the St Matthews Catholic School Agriculture Department for being awarded Champion School at the 2026 NSW Dohne Prime Lamb Schools Competition AND the Champion School at the 2026 NSW School Merino Wether Challenge.

Agriculture students in years 9 and 10, along with their teachers, Mrs Kimberley White and Mrs Judy Rohr, have been working closely with these wethers since their arrival in February. The Merino wethers were provided by Egelbra Merino Stud in Warren while the Dohne wethers were provided by the Currey family in Walgett. Students taught the wethers to lead and recorded their weights weekly, understood their changing nutritional requirements and expanded on their knowledge of sheep carcass and fleece characteristics. Agricultural students and staff are excited to participate in these programs again next year.

What an incredible experience at Ignite Sydney 2026!

Students and staff from across the Catholic Education Diocese of Bathurst (CEDB) came together to celebrate faith, worship, and community under this year’s theme, “Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord” (Isaiah 2:3).

From powerful workshops and inspiring speakers to high-energy worship rallies, our young people were empowered to live out their faith with courage and purpose. Ignite Sydney Conference 2026 reaffirmed the importance of faith formation for our young people. Events like this play a vital role in nurturing the spiritual growth of students, equipping them with the tools and inspiration to continue "going up the mountain" in their daily lives. The CEDB is grateful for the opportunity to support such a transformative experience for our students and staff.

Post Graduate RE Studies: Liturgy and Prayer
The 2026 cohort of the Graduate Certificate/Master's in Religious Education has recently begun their second unit: Liturgy and Prayer in Schools and Other Settings. Facilitated by Dr Gavin Brown from the Australian Catholic University, this unit prepares teachers to lead prayer and liturgy in Catholic schools and parishes. Throughout the unit, teachers critically evaluated existing educational resources and built hands-on skills for planning liturgical celebrations. By the end of this unit, teachers will have deepened their knowledge of Catholic traditions and theology and developed the professional expertise needed to lead religious education effectively.
