📚✨ Literacy is an important part of children's learning, helping to build language, communication, confidence, and early literacy skills.

In our Possum room, literacy is supported through labelled learning areas and toys, Auslan alphabet signs, library books, yarning circles, counting and simple words in the Wiradjuri language, and participating in the Acknowledgement of Country. In our Koala room, children explore literacy through labelled toys and learning areas, books, songs, stories, and everyday conversations with educators.

These meaningful experiences help children develop a love of learning while fostering inclusion, respect for Aboriginal culture, and an appreciation for different languages and cultures. 💛

💖 On Wednesdays, We Wear Pink! 💖

Today, our children and educators proudly participated in “On Wednesday We Wear Pink" to promote kindness, inclusion, friendship, and standing up against bullying.

It was wonderful to see everyone dressed in pink and engaging in meaningful conversations and activities about respecting others, celebrating our differences, and creating a caring community where everyone feels valued and belongs.🌸

Possum Room educators and children have been working alongside inclusive practices and a school readiness curriculum. This provides opportunities for hands-on learning, builds concentration, strengthens communication and literacy skills, encourages independence, and supports children's confidence as they prepare for their transition to school.

Each week, children take part in a Welcome to Country and yarning circle, where they build oral language, confidence, active listening, and turn-taking skills while developing respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and a sense of belonging.

Children have also been learning Auslan, which supports inclusive communication, language development, social inclusion, and respect for diversity, helping ensure all children feel valued and able to participate in the learning program.

Sensory trays are a wonderful way to support children's learning through hands-on exploration and play. They provide opportunities for children to engage their senses, develop fine motor skills, build concentration, and encourage creativity and problem-solving.

Through sensory play, children can explore different textures, colours, temperatures, and materials in a safe and engaging environment. Sensory trays also help promote language development as children describe what they see, feel, and experience, while supporting social skills through shared play and collaboration with peers.

As Koala Children, sensory experiences are carefully planned to spark curiosity, encourage investigation, and support each child's learning and development. These activities allow children to explore at their own pace while having fun and making meaningful discoveries.

These are some of the sensory trays that Koala Children have enjoyed exploring over the past few weeks:
• Coloured rice sensory trays
• Bicarbonate soda and vinegar experiments
• Frozen ice exploration trays
• Paint sensory experiences

The children have loved investigating, creating, and learning through these engaging sensory play opportunities!

Yesterday, we held our special Mother’s Day Art Gallery 💐🎨
The children created beautiful canvas paintings showing how their mums make them feel and what they think their mum looks like. Each artwork was filled with love, creativity, and heartfelt expressions. Happy Mother’s Day to all our wonderful mums, grandmothers, and mother figures in our daycare community❤️

🦖 Dinosaur Visit! 🦕

Last Wednesday, we were so excited to welcome My Pet Dinosaur for a very special visit!

The children had an amazing time learning about different types of dinosaurs—how they lived, what they ate, and how we discover them through fossils.

They even got to meet three friendly dinosaurs Toby, Annie, and Tilly they loved being able to see and touch them up close!

One of the highlights was a hands-on fossil treasure hunt in the sand, where the children became little paleontologists, searching for hidden fossils. We also enjoyed a fun dinosaur-themed painting activity 🎨

It was a fantastic experience filled with learning, laughter, and excitement. What a special day! 💚
