There has been an increase in the number of reported cases of gastroenteritis (“gastro”) within the Gannawarra. This highly contagious illness can spread quickly through households, workplaces, childcare centres, and public settings.
Symptoms can include vomiting, diarrhoea, stomach cramps, fever, and nausea. Most people recover within a few days, but the illness can be more severe for young children, older adults, pregnant people, and immunocompromised individuals.
You can help reduce the spread of gastro by:
💧 Washing your hands thoroughly with soap and water for at least 20 seconds before preparing or eating food, using the toilet or changing nappies.
🏠 Staying home if you are unwell.
🛡️Using disinfectant to clean high-touch areas, such as taps, toilets, and benchtops.
🚰 Drinking plenty of water.
❌ Not visiting local swimming pools.
If you have concerns or symptoms worsen, contact your GP or call Nurse on Call on 1300 60 60 24.
