At Whitworth Aviation, once you have obtained your PPL , we encourage you to go on and get your instrument flight rating.

You will find doing your IFR is a real confidence booster. It will equip you with the skill set to navigate flights relying solely upon your flight instruments and navigation aids in varying weather conditions You will find it really rewarding as it provide you with a sense of greater freedom as well as giving you the feeling of enhanced confidence as a pilot. Bill has taught IFR for several decades and will share his knowledge - and passion - over and above what you need in order to get this rating . Bill's instructors are also very experienced in teaching IFR. Most of our students doing IFR will want to do a multi- engine endorsement with us.

Whitworth Aviation has good relations with other training schools in Australia, and beyond our shores, so if you're trying to make a decision about your prospective IFR or other training, we are happy to give you some friendly advice .

Most of our graduating students visit to let us know what they are up to,so if you drop in , you can hear from them also about tips in the industry .and about instructors around the country you may establish a good rapport with.

Command Instrument Rating (CIR): You can obtain your Command Instrument Rating on either a single or twin engine Duchess The duchesses are the best colored weather radar, fully coupled auto pilot/ Flight Director systems and RMI /fixed card to suit requirements.
Training time is approximately 20 hours in the synthetic trainer and 22 hours in the aircraft.
You will be trained by the most experienced instructor in the country. Bill has been teaching IFR since 1970, and gained a strong reputation for upholding the highest standard in his instrument rating training approach.
The CFI has CASA delegations for tests.
