Between year 2 and 3, most students begin developing the capacity for deeper understanding π§ . This is why our classes begin in year 2.
Early intervention yields the highest gains, with some studies showing six additional months of progress among peers. π
This gives our students an advantage when it comes to their first NAPLAN exams in year 3. The flow-on effect of extracurricular study is then compounded when it comes to selection into their school's gifted and talented streams, OC entry and Selective entry in later years. πͺ
By starting early, they get a headstart that they can take with them ππββοΈ

There's nothing better than a good book to get through some rainy weather and luckily for us, the Children's Book Council of Australia (CBCA) has just released their Notables Book List for new books released in the last year. Most libraries should already have these titles in stock. Happy reading!! π
Find the list here: https://cbca.org.au/2026-notables/
"From playful absurdity and laugh-out-loud humour to stories that explore grief, resilience, belonging and identity, these books meet young readers where they are β and invite them to think, feel and imagine more deeply. Family, friendship and intergenerational connection feature strongly, alongside powerful explorations of culture, Country and place. Environmental awareness, self-expression and the courage to find oneβs voice resonate across the list." (From CBCA)

During year 2 and 3, children have the capacity to truly catapult their learning, and set themselves up for academic success.
HOW? π€
They have mostly mastered the basics of reading, writing, spelling, arithmetic (plus, minus and some if not all their times tables) and with this they can then start to apply their knowledge to actual problems and explore worlds beyond their own.
And this is why our program starts in *year 2*. Our expertise is in explicit teaching strategies and problem-solving. We are passionate about challenging young minds and seeing how far they can go! π

Did you know preparing for the OC exam is a crucial stepping stone to Selective success?
Large parts of the OC and Selective exams are similar in format and style, with the Selective exams being longer, more difficult and including writing. But those who get a head start by preparing for the OC exam benefit from familiarity with the nature of questions and problem-solving skills so that by the time the Selective exams roll around, they feel well-prepared.
Our OC program starts in year 3 to give students the time to master the skills to succeed in the exam. We have over 25 years of experience helping students get into OC all over Sydney including Summer Hill, Hurstville, Earlwood, Georges Hall, Ashfield, St Johns, Wilkins, Greenacre, Harrington and Newbridge Heights.
