Join us in congratulating Miss Brittni Balogh– (Teacher in Charge – Digital Technologies), who has been recognised as a finalist in the Secondary School Teacher of the Year category for the 2026 Australian Education Awards.

As Teacher-in-Charge of Digital Technologies, Brittni has demonstrated exceptional leadership through her commitment to improving both student outcomes and staff capability. Her work has focused on creating engaging and innovative learning programs while empowering colleagues to feel more confident and capable in teaching Digital Technologies.

A key part of this achievement has been Brittni’s dedication to fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement. Through initiatives such as DigiMeets and the promotion of shared practice, she has created opportunities for staff to learn from one another, build confidence, and strengthen their teaching practice. Brittni’s reflective approach to teaching—continually refining programs, adapting strategies, and seeking new ways to engage students—has had a positive impact across the school community.

Reflecting on being announced as a finalist, Brittni described the experience as both unexpected and rewarding.

"Honestly, it was a bit surreal. I wasn’t expecting it at all. Teaching can be quite a behind-the-scenes profession, so to have that work recognised felt special. At the same time, it didn’t feel like just my achievement—it felt like a reflection of the people I work with every day. I felt proud, but also very grateful”.

Passionate about creating an environment where teachers feel comfortable to learn, take risks, and grow, Brittni believes that building teacher confidence is fundamental to student success.

"I strongly believe that confident teachers lead to confident students. This recognition motivates me to keep building that culture while continuing to grow and learn myself."

We congratulate Brittni on this well-deserved achievement and thank her for the positive impact she continues to have on students, colleagues, and the wider school community.

Join us in congratulating Miss Jessica Remi – (Leading Teacher - Year 12), who has been recognised as a finalist in the Department Head of the Year category for the 2026 Australian Education Awards.

This well-deserved recognition reflects Jessica’s unwavering commitment to supporting students, colleagues, and the broader school community. As a Leading Teacher, she has demonstrated exceptional leadership through the development and facilitation of professional learning communities focused on instructional leadership and improving outcomes for both students and staff.

Throughout 2025, Jessica led the implementation of Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) at Joseph Banks Secondary College, helping to strengthen a positive, inclusive, and supportive school culture. Her leadership also extended to working closely with the Literacy Improvement Team to embed evidence-informed teaching practices through the Write to Learn initiative, contributing to improved literacy outcomes for students.

Beyond the classroom, Jessica has fostered strong community partnerships through the coordination of programs such as the Health Expo and the High Performance Netball Program. These initiatives have created meaningful opportunities for student engagement, wellbeing, and personal growth.

Reflecting on being named a finalist, Jessica described the experience as deeply rewarding.

"I felt shocked and extremely grateful to be announced as a finalist. It was a humbling moment and meaningful recognition from both the college and the department for work I am passionate about. This acknowledgement reflects the passion and commitment I bring to my role each day. It means a lot to have the work I do recognised, especially the focus on creating inclusive learning environments, supporting students and staff, and building strong partnerships that help young people thrive."

What an amazing year for Joseph Banks Secondary College last year. We are fortunate to have such an amazing teaching cohort led by an award winning senior leadership team. Congratulations to all the students and teachers for such an amazing year.
