Career Taster Program - Creating Curiosity!

Some of our Year 9 students recently attended the Jewellery and Letterpress career taster at North Metropolitan TAFE. Students created their own business cards on a letterpress, designed greeting cards using a printing press, and made sterling silver rings in the jewellery studio.

They also toured a range of workshops in the Creative Industries department, discovering opportunities in fashion and textiles, game and graphic design, visual arts, ceramics, and jewellery.

The hands-on experience sparked plenty of creativity and career curiosity, with students engaging enthusiastically throughout the day and gaining valuable insight into future education and career pathways.

These exciting opportunities are made possible through the Year 9 Career Taster Program (CTP), helping students connect classroom learning with post-school possibilities.

🌈Wear It Purple Day🌈

This year marked the eighth time Joseph Banks Secondary College has acknowledged Wear It Purple Day, and what an incredible celebration it was.

Led by our students and supported by our staff, the day began with a Connect Activity on Tuesday that drew meaningful links between the day's theme and our college values of ASPIRE, INQUIRY, RESPECT and RESILIENCE. Grounded in discussion, personal reflection and our College's own commitment statement, the activity gave students the opportunity to engage with the day's message in a genuine and purposeful way.

At recess, the energy was electric! The Skittle Committee hosted a fantastic event that completely sold out of rainbow jelly cups and rainbow cookies, while students eagerly snapped up Lucky Numbers for a chance to win Needoh and Fuggler prize packs. The atmosphere was warm, respectful and full of community spirit.

A heartfelt thank you to the students of the Skittle Committee, who have been quietly and tirelessly working on this event since mid-Term 2. Volunteering their lunch breaks, they packed Rainbow Shoelace Bead packs, handcrafted bracelets, designed advertising posters and meticulously layered every single jelly cup. The community they are building, one of respect, kindness, connection and belonging, is something we are incredibly proud of.

We were also deeply moved by the return of several alumni who were once members of the Skittle Committee during their time at Joseph Banks Secondary College. Their decision to come back and support this year's event speaks volumes about the lasting impact this group has had on their lives. It is a wonderful reminder that the connections and values formed here do not end at graduation, and that the spirit of the Skittle Committee continues to inspire long after students have moved on.

Wear It Purple Day exists to remind every young person that they are seen, valued and celebrated for exactly who they are. At Joseph Banks Secondary College, that is a message we are proud to champion every single day.

YOH Fest Success!

Recently our Year 7, 8 and 9 High Performance Drama students competed in the Perth heats at YOH Fest, a state-wide competition held at Subiaco Arts Centre. All three groups performed exceptionally well and entertained the crowd with plays they devised around the 2026 theme, Health is Wealth.

We are proud to announce that all groups received Merit Awards, and Joseph Banks SC was recognised with the ✨Excellence in Etiquette Award✨ for their enthusiasm, commitment and professionalism. In addition to this accolade, our Year 9 students also won the most prestigious award of the night, the ✨Healthway Award✨ for their musical parody entitled Steal It.

It was fantastic to see our students shine on stage, but even more rewarding was seeing the passion, enthusiasm and pure joy they brought to the experience. Their energy and commitment made it a truly memorable event!

We’ll find out in September whether our students have successfully secured a place in the Grand Final — fingers crossed! 🤞✨

State Champion - Congratulations!

Year 8 student Aidan (AJ) H is the new under 15s WA State Pool Champion for 2026!

This is a huge achievement for AJ, who only took up playing pool 2 years ago and is now the top player for his age group. Incredibly, AJ also entered the U18 State Championship and came runner up, beating the 4 times Australian Champion in the semi-finals to make the Grand Final - Wow, that is so impressive!

AJ will now travel to Victoria with the state team in January, where he will look to build on his accomplishments.

Congratulations AJ on such a fantastic achievement, we are sure there is continued success to follow for you.

Ball Tickets - This is the final week to buy College Ball tickets. Ticket sales close at 3:30pm Friday 28 August.

Presentation Evening Tickets sales opened today. Families can purchase up to 3 tickets via this link https://www.ticketswa.com/event/titan-class-2026

For now, tickets are restricted to 3 per family to allow families plenty of time to secure their tickets before the restriction is lifted. Last year this event sold out when final tickets were released.

We are excited to welcome prospective students and families to our College for a Saturday Tour on Saturday 5 September at 9:30am.

This weekend tour provides the opportunity for families that are unable to attend during the week, to tour our state-of-the-art facilities, learn of the incredible opportunities and pathways students attending our College have access to, and meet our friendly Executive team.

We look forward to meeting you and sharing our commitment to Building Curious Learners that are world ready at the conclusion of their secondary education.

The wait is finally over! 📸✨

We had SO many photos from our spectacular production of The Wizard of Oz that it took us a little while to make our way through them all!

From the unforgettable characters and incredible costumes to the spectacular performances, and all the little details that brought The Wizard of Oz to life, we’re excited to finally share some of our favourite memories from this very special production.

A huge congratulations once again to our incredibly talented students and everyone who helped make The Wizard of Oz such a magical success! ✨ The dedication and commitment from our Creative and Performing Arts Leading Teacher, Ms Rebecca Voss and her team, is to be commended. Behind these memorable performances was countless hours of rehearsal, persistence, teamwork and a commitment from our students to continually challenge themselves and strive for their best. Their passion, talent and dedication were truly inspiring.
