As part of our learning about Noongar culture and respectful communication, the students in 1P went on a nature walk to collect sticks to create their own talking sticks. We then visited our newly built yarning circle, where we worked together to weave and decorate our sticks using natural materials. This was a wonderful opportunity to connect with nature, collaborate with our classmates, and learn about the importance of listening and sharing during a yarning circle. Our talking sticks will be used throughout the year in both our classroom and the Nature Scape to support respectful conversations and storytelling.

Two very lucky Yr 5 Aspire students, Chris and Angel, attended an exceptional learning experience with special guest, 2026 Australian of the Year Katherine Bennell-Pegg hosted by Joseph Banks Secondary College and the Western Australian Space Science Education Centre.
Katherine is Australia's first astronaut trained under the national flag and is now 'space flight ready'. She shared powerful insights into her journey and why space is so exciting. Her presentation was inspirational, exploring future pathways in STEM and she is an incredible role model for young people.
We may one day see Chris and Angel in space.

It was such a special experience for the students to hear different languages, learn about different cultures, and celebrate the diversity within our classroom community. Thank you for taking the time to make this learning experience so meaningful and memorable for our students. A big thank you to the wonderful parents and family members in 1J who came into our classroom to read stories in their home languages. We loved listening to Spanish, Filipino, French and Italian being shared with our class!
