Yesterday we celebrated our amazing educators who make our centre truely unique. The children recorded special messages to voice their thanks and what they are grateful for
“Thank you for making us things for me to do”
“Thank you for our educators for making school fun”
“Thanks you educators for keeping us safe, and if we fall over you keep us safe if that happens”
“Thanks you for our chefs making our food”

The Echo children followed their own ideas as they explored Mobilo, discovering what they could create by connecting, pulling apart, rearranging, and rebuilding.

Rather than working towards a finished product, the experience was guided by curiosity and the children’s own theories. They experimented with balance, movement, and structure, sharing ideas and making decisions as their creations evolved.

Through this open-ended exploration, the children were encouraged to see themselves as capable constructors, thinkers, and creators, with their ideas shaping where the experience went next.

We were so grateful to welcome the team from Bunnings to our service last week. Together, we worked on refreshing our garden space. The children were supported to plant new herbs, fruits and veggies, learning lots about how healthy soil helps our garden flourish🍓

Our partnership with Bunnings will continue throughout the year. In the coming months, our Harmony garden will grow with a cultural greenhouse, a worm farm, native herbs, and gathering spaces🪏

Our Echo children explored loose parts as they carefully arranged, moved and repositioned materials to create their own mandalas and patterns.

Through this open-ended experience, children explored symmetry, pattern, shape, colour and spatial awareness, while developing concentration, creativity and fine motor skills.

Each design was a reflection of the child’s own ideas and imagination🏵️

Exploring light and shadows☀️
Last week, the children used magnet tiles to build colourful structures in the sunshine to discover the shadows they could make.

As the sunlight passed through the coloured tiles, the children noticed how the light changed and created colourful shapes on the ground.

This was a beautiful example of how children can turn everyday materials into opportunities for discovery and wonder🪩

This week, our children have been exploring paint in different ways, using bubble wrap as a layer between their hands and the paint. As they pressed, pushed, and spread the paint across the surface, they were developing fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination and hand strength👇

This simple experience encouraged children to experiment with pressure, movement and cause and effect while enjoying the sensory experience of paint and bubble wrap. Sometimes, the simplest materials create the most engaging learning opportunities🧡

Last week, our Echo studio celebrated NAIDOC Week by exploring the unique animals of Australia, drawing inspiration from the rich storytelling and symbolism found in Indigenous art.

Using natural clay, watercolours and markers, the children expressed their ideas through a variety of creative mediums, developing their own representations of Australia’s incredible wildlife.🐨

As we celebrated this year’s NAIDOC Week, we also acknowledged the importance of engaging with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives in meaningful and respectful ways, fostering curiosity, appreciation and a deeper connection to Country.🌿

At Harmony Bangalow, our unique environment allows children of all ages to come together throughout the day. While each age-group has its own dedicated studio, they all connect through one shared outdoor learning space, creating endless opportunities for meaningful relationships, collaboration and shared learning.

Today, we captured a beautiful moment as one of our preschool children gently supported a younger friend to hold a paintbrush and explore painting together.

These moments reflect the theories of psychologist Lev Vygotsky, who believed children learn best through social interactions with more knowledgeable others. As older children model skills, encourage, and support younger peers, they help extend learning in ways that feel natural, meaningful and joyful.💚
