Weâre delighted to be donating this yearâs Family Fair art auction proceeds to the Byron Bay wildlife Hospital, who have their home base just a few km up the road at Knockrow.
Australiaâs largest mobile wildlife hospital (affectionately named Matilda) is a renewably powered, 22 wheeled wheeled semi trailer, custom built to enable mobile, all-species care. This unique setup allows for quick and necessary mobilisation, particularly in the wake of natural disasters.
The hospital treats and cares for injured, diseased, orphaned and displaced native animals from birds, mammals and reptiles to marine animals such as turtles. The not-for-profit supports 19 incredible, passionate professionals who provide veterinary and rehab services seven days a week, completely free of charge.
Established after the catastrophic Black Summer bushfires in 2019, their team of expert wildlife vets and nurses have treated over 4000 native animals, and since then have returned nearly half of these darling patients into the wild.
The veterinary team are led by Byron Bay Wildlife Hospitalâs Foundation Veterinarian, Dr. Bree Talbot, who just happens to be one of our Mirabelles (yesâŚcorrect,we are absolutely gushing)!
You may have seen in an email we sent to all families earlier in the year, that the government has unfortunately pulled $6 million of key funding previously allocated, with no warning, putting the future of in jeopardy.
