This week, we said goodbye to the Keika students 🇯🇵👋🇦🇺

The students had a great time at Ferny Grove SHS, making new friends with their school buddies, joining classes and experiencing a new school environment in Australia.

Keika is one of our longest-running partner schools in Japan, and we thoroughly enjoyed spending time not only with the students, but also with their accompanying teachers.

A big thank you as well to our wonderful host families for opening your homes to the students and making them feel so welcome. We couldn’t run these programs without your support, and we really appreciate everything you do! 🏡❤️

We hope everyone went home with lots of great memories, and we look forward to welcoming Keika back to Australia again soon! 🇦🇺🤝🇯🇵

Risako and Sakurako, hosted by the Heyes family, joined their host father in the garden to plant Japanese plants alongside Australian natives.

Just like these plants growing together, our cultures can grow side by side — each unique in character and heritage, yet connected by shared experiences and a common ground.

A lovely symbol of friendship, connection and the bonds created through homestay.

Homestay is about so much more than providing a place to stay. It’s about learning from different cultures, building long-lasting friendships, sharing everyday moments — and sometimes even shedding a few tears when it’s time to say goodbye.

The Kingham family was no exception! They had an amazing time welcoming two students from Niigata, Japan, into their home and creating memories together.

Our Homestay Coordinator, Yuki, and English Teacher, John, also provided wonderful support to our host families throughout the program, helping make the experience even more meaningful for everyone involved.

A big thank you to the Kingham family and all of our amazing host families for opening your homes and hearts to our students. 🇦🇺🇯🇵

These are the connections that make homestay so special. 😌

Japan is heading into Golden Week — one of its biggest holiday seasons 🇯🇵✨

It’s also the time when Japan celebrates Boys’ Day (Children's day), with beautiful traditions, meaningful foods, and heartfelt wishes for children’s growth.

We’ve put together a quick blog to explore these unique cultural celebrations.
