Ballina Coast High School has proudly supported Legacy since our school opened in 2019.

During Legacy Week, our school captains represented BCHS at the wreath-laying ceremony and Legacy luncheon, while around 17 students joined local Legacy volunteers in the community to sell badges, bears and pens and help raise awareness of this important organisation.

Legacy grew from a promise made between two soldiers on the Western Front during World War I: “I’ll look after the missus and kids.” When servicemen returned home, they took on the responsibility of supporting the widows and children of those who had lost their lives or health through their service. That promise led to the formation of Legacy in 1923 and continues today through emotional, social and financial support for Australian Defence Force families.

By giving their time during Legacy Week, our students are not only helping to raise funds that will support local families affected by war, they are also learning what it means to honour service, contribute to their community and help carry an important promise into the future.

Thank you to our students for representing BCHS with kindness and respect, and to our local Legacy volunteers for allowing them to be part of this meaningful work

🌟 Work Placement Shout Out!
A big shout out to Matilda from Ballina Coast High School, who recently completed her Business Services work placement at her school and has shared a little about her experience with us! 👏

Work Placement is a great opportunity for students to step into a real workplace, build confidence and put the skills they’re learning at school into practice.

We’d also like to recognise BCHS and Head Teacher Administration, Donna Ryan, for their ongoing support of work placement and for encouraging students to make the most of these valuable opportunities.

It takes a team effort between students, schools and host employers to make work placement happen – and these experiences can make a real difference in preparing young people for what comes next.

Congratulations to our Year 12 Industrial Technology Timber students who have submitted their HSC Major Projects and Portfolios. Months of designing, planning, problem solving and hands-on construction have come together ready for the arrival of the HSC markers today! Well done. What a great accomplishment to design and build your own piece of furniture!

🧬🍓Year 10 Science students turned geneticists this week by extracting DNA from strawberries. Unfortunately the end result isn't the most glamorous to the eye; a white, clumpy goop. But, visuals aside, this goop is the secret to life, a miracle molecule that has enabled Earth to be swarmed with the living for 3.6 billion years.

Our BCHS Open Girls Netball Team delivered an outstanding performance at the NSW CHSSA Netball Championships, showcasing exceptional skill, teamwork, and determination throughout the competition.

Their strategic play and unwavering commitment saw them battling fiercely against some of the strongest teams in the state. Each player demonstrated remarkable athleticism and sportsmanship, contributing to several hard-fought victories.

The team’s resilience under pressure and cohesive collaboration were evident in every match, earning them well-deserved recognition and respect from peers and coaches alike. Our school definitely has a name, as a school to watch in the sport arena.

This exceptional campaign not only highlighted their talent but also set a high standard for future competitions, making the team a true source of pride for our school community.

⚽ Fantastic futsal results for BCHS!

Our U14 and U16 boys and girls teams took to the court recently, putting in some brilliant performances across two days of competition.

🏆 U16 Girls – Champions, defeating Kingscliff 3–1
🏆 U16 Boys – Champions, winning 5–4 on penalties after a 4–4 draw with Kingscliff
🥈 U14 Girls – Runners-up, after a close 5–3 final against Byron Bay
👏 U14 Boys – Semi-finalists, going down 7–5 to Byron Bay in a nail-biter

Congratulations to every student who represented BCHS. Some great results and plenty to be proud of!

🎭Our Year 9 English students have been stepping into the world of Romeo and Juliet, exploring a story filled with love, loyalty, family conflict and choices that carry serious consequences.💔

While the language may have been written more than 400 years ago, Shakespeare's ideas still give students plenty to think and talk about. Along the way, they’re building confidence with complex texts, considering different perspectives and discovering how one famous story continues to influence books, films and popular culture today.

Students worked in pairs, small groups or independently to summarise the main plot and create a timeline of the key events leading up to the tragic ending.

Exploring the characters’ emotions, motivations and choices encourages students to see events from another person’s point of view—an important part of developing empathy.
