St Francis Xavier Primary School has a rich tradition of providing quality education and care for children from the City of Ballarat and surrounding districts.

Our school is located in a rural pocket of Ballarat East with 458 children from F to Year 6. St Francis Xavier Primary School is a Catholic school that operates under the governance of the Diocese of Ballarat Catholic Education Limited (DOBCEL) with approximately 480 children from Foundation to Year Six. Our school is situated in a rural pocket of Ballarat East, just minutes from central Ballarat

and has a rich tradition of providing quality education and care for children from the City of Ballarat and surrounding districts. St. Francis Xavier Primary School has built a learning environment founded on fundamental values such as love, respect, forgiveness and trust, drawing on the inspiration and example of the Sisters of Mercy. The learning environment at St. Francis Xavier Primary School truly supports the academic growth of all children. Our school offers a quality learning environment, with many specialist areas, including Visual Art, Performing Arts, Music and Physical Education. A comprehensive Environmental Education program immerses students in their role as custodians of the land on which we live. Francis Xavier Primary School draws on the research and development of the Catholic Education Commission of Victoria. This research and development has been at the forefront of successful developments in English and Mathematics education. St Francis Xavier Primary School has a current enrolment of 480 children operating as 22 class groups. Attendance records for all students are kept and on average, student attendance rate for 2022 was 95.6%

It is the policy of St. Francis Xavier Primary School that children’s learning is the core that drives the choices made when structuring authentic learning experiences for them. Learning and teaching will occur in an atmosphere that promotes spirituality, moral confidence, ethics and emotional intelligence in the relationships between students, staff and parents. This will be built on relationships that support and challenge all members of the Learning Community. Children have the opportunity to take responsibility for their learning, and to utilise appropriate learning technologies to support their learning. Parents are valued as active participants in the education process. Each class at St. Francis Xavier Primary School works proactively and creatively to deal with the management of student behaviour. A range of support services from the Catholic Education Office and local agencies are accessed to support the physical, social, emotional and academic needs of children. Francis Xavier Primary School is a caring community made up on people from a range of family, social and religious backgrounds. This caring community positively acts to serve the needs of each family. Francis Xavier Primary School structures fees and levies to ensure that the maximum benefit is gained for each child from every dollar spent. A whole staff approach to dealing with school issues ensures that every effort is made for each child to enjoy success as they grow and develop within our supportive school community. 📚 The Great Book Swap is coming to SFX! 📚

As part of our Book Week celebrations next week, students are invited to bring along 1–2 books they’ve finished with and swap them for something new to enjoy!

📅 Tuesday: Foundation, Year 1 & Year 2
📅 Wednesday: Year 3 & Year 4
📅 Thursday:Year 5 & Year 6

⏰ First Break

Books should be in good, clean condition and can be fiction or non-fiction. Students will receive a token for each book they bring, which they can use to choose another book.

A great chance to give an old favourite a new home and discover a new story! 📚

Our Kindness Wall is coming to life for
Bullying? No Way! Week.
At lunchtime, our children have been busy colouring, creating, sharing and turn taking as they add their special kindness pictures to our display.
Together we are showing that everyone belongs, everyone matters and even small acts of kindness can make a big difference!

🌿 A Call to Peace 🌿

Today our staff gathered at Bungaree for a beautiful day of prayer, reflection and learning together, exploring the Jubilee Year of St Francis of Assisi – 800 Years of a Call to Peace.

We began our day with Mass at St Michael’s Church before Fr Justin Driscoll led us in reflecting on the life and legacy of St Francis, the call to build a civilisation of love, and what this means for us as a Catholic school community today.

Our afternoon challenged us to move from reflection to action, exploring how we can continue to build a community of encounter, welcome, reconciliation, dignity, deep listening and peace at St Francis Xavier.

A huge thank you to Fr Justin for leading us with such wisdom, warmth and faith throughout the day, and to everyone at Bungaree for their wonderful hospitality.

We leave today with a simple challenge:

What have we been given… that we are now called to give?

May we continue to be instruments of peace in the everyday moments of our school community. 💚✝️

Last Friday, 45 of our talented athletes represented our school at the Ballarat Catholic Primary Schools Athletics event at Llanberris Athletics Reserve.

It was fantastic to see our students giving every event their best effort. There were some great performances, but even more importantly, our athletes showed determination, teamwork, encouragement and outstanding sportspersonship throughout the day.

A big congratulations to everyone who represented our school and we would also like to thank the staff and families for your wonderful assistance and support on the day.
