Federation University Australia stands in solidarity with the Muslim community following the recent distressing incident in Ballarat that has impacted members of our staff and student community.
As expressed by Professor Duncan Bentley, Vice-Chancellor and President of Federation University Australia, acts of racism, discrimination, and religious hatred have no place in our university or in our broader community. It is particularly troubling that this incident occurred during the holy month of Ramadan β a time devoted to reflection, compassion, generosity, and community.
Federation University remains firmly committed to ensuring that every member of our community feels safe, respected, and welcomed. We stand unequivocally with those affected and reaffirm our commitment to fostering an inclusive environment built on dignity, mutual respect, and understanding.
Support services remain available for students and staff, including free and confidential counselling, 24/7 crisis support, TalkCampus peer connection services, and spiritual and multifaith support. The university will continue to support those impacted and work closely with the Ballarat community to ensure that intolerance and intimidation are not tolerated.
At times like these, the strength of our community lies in standing together, supporting one another, and reaffirming the values that define Federation University.
