💇‍♀️ Crazy Hair Day! 💇‍♂️

What an amazing day of creativity and colour at our Crazy Hair Day! We’ve seen everything from noodle hair and cupcake hair to so many other weird and wonderful creations - our students truly outdid themselves! 🍜🧁✨

A big well done to everyone for their fantastic effort and enthusiasm, and thank you to our school community for supporting this special fundraiser for a past student. Your kindness and generosity are greatly appreciated.

✖️➗ 2026 Maths Night ➖➕

On Wednesday, March 25th, we held our annual Maths Night and were so pleased to see such a great turnout from our school community. It was a fun and relaxed evening, with lots of hands-on games and activities for students and families to enjoy together. It was wonderful to see so many people getting involved and having a go.

The “Guess the Lolly Jar” was a big hit again this year, with plenty of eager guesses. Well done to Ayla for her winning guess!

The Mintie Wrapper Challenge saw many students, siblings, and grown ups try to tear the longest wrapper. Well done to our 3 winners!

Thank you to all of our families for coming along and supporting the school - we really appreciate it and love seeing our community come together like this.

New zoning has been released for current grade 6s transitioning to year 7 in 2027.

To find your local school and other government schools in your area:
1. Visit Find my School
2. Enter your child’s permanent address under ‘Enter your address to get started’
3. Select the school year you are looking to enrol your child in under ‘Enrolment year’
4. Select primary, secondary or specialist under ‘School type’
5. The map will show your address, your local school, and the contact details for the school. The website will also show you the 5 closest schools to your address.

BALLAN IS JOINING DAYLESFORD COLLEGE!
After more than 20 years of lobbying to have Ballan re-zoned to Daylesford College, it has finally happened! From 2027, Daylesford College will be the zoned high school for students from Ballan.

This outcome reflects years of hard work, persistence, and navigating plenty of setbacks along the way. Thank you to all the Ballan parents/carers who made their voices heard over the years and supported the College. And also, a big thanks to Michaela Settle MP and Mary-Anne Thomas MP for their support too.

The wheels are now in motion for a second bus from Ballan. Steve MacPhail, Daylesford College Principal, will be visiting Ballan PS early next term to talk to parents/carers and answer any questions. All parents/carers are encouraged to come on a tour and see the College in action. It's the best way to get a feel for a school and to see if it's a good 'fit' for you and your child(ren). 📸 Photo Opportunity with The Moorabool News 📸

This Friday, 27th March, The Moorabool News will be visiting for a photo opportunity at 3:30pm.

The photo will take place on the corner of Duncan and Steiglitz Streets, with Michaela Settle MP, and will include the school, kinder, and gym in the background.

If parents/carers are available to be in the photo as a celebratory moment to mark the news, that would be wonderful. Staff will also be present in the photo.

✖️➕ Maths Night ➗➖

In preparation of our Maths Night on March 25 from 5pm to 6pm, we are looking at some mathematics skills.

What is subitising?
Subitising is the ability to visually recognise how many objects are in a small group without counting. For example, knowing that someone is holding up 3 fingers without counting each finger.

Practising this skill at home will help your child to recognise small groups quickly without the need to count. Subitising usually works best with small numbers – up to 5, and sometimes up to 10.

At home
Dice games

Roll a dice and have your child call out the number of dots as quickly as possible. Then count together to check. Roll again.

How many fingers?

When out walking, hold up 1-5 (or up to 10) fingers and thumbs for 1-2 seconds, and ask your child to tell you how many fingers they can see.

Snack peek

Place up to 5 pieces of snack food (for example, grapes, crackers) on a plate without your child seeing. Let your child look briefly, then cover it. Ask ‘how many did you see?’ Reveal the pieces and count together to check.

Missing eggs

As you use eggs, show the egg carton to your child and give them 2 seconds to look at the number remaining without counting. Ask them, ‘how many eggs are left’ or how many have been used?’

At the supermarket
Bunches of bananas

Hold up a bunch of bananas for a few seconds and ask your child how many there were before counting. Count together afterwards to check if they were right.

Yoghurt tubs

Show your child a packet of yoghurt tubs quickly. Is it a pack of 2, 4, 6 or 12 yoghurts? Ask them, ‘would this be enough for everyone in our family?’

At the park
It’s a handful

Hide up to 5 small objects (for example, stones) in your hand. Open your hand briefly for 1-2 seconds then close it. Ask ‘how many did you see?’ Open your hand and count together to check.
