It was good to see Ursula yesterday a true believer of KI Aikido
We have trained together since the nineties
And we have a strong bond.
It was great to see her and memories came flooding back.
The Dojo has come a long way since then and the students are what makes this club .
As like Ursula I cannot continue forever to train but the club must survive
Please continue to promote Aikido
And the club will live on

AIKIDO GOSHINKAI: Memorial for Elisabeth ANDEL SHIHAN

Good morning everyone during this sad time for the Aikido Goshinkai family.

The passing of Elisabeth SHIHAN has been an emotional time for all those who knew her and those who experienced the joy of sharing time on the mat with her.

While it is a sad time it's also a time to reflect on her love of life's aikido journey and the joy she gave to others simply by being in their presence.

To help our community come together to celebrate the life of Elisabeth there will be a quiet training session followed by a memorial event to be held on the following date:

MEMORIAL EVENT
DATE: Saturday 16th August 2025
VENUE: TWEED DOJO @ South Tweed Sports Club
TIME: 10:30am - 12:30pm Class
Correction: Memorial: 12.30pm

Following the event everyone is invited to get together for drinks etc in the Garden Room upstairs. This would be a wonderful time to share our stories and experiences of training and sharing our lives with such a wonderful woman.

Looking forward to seeing as many of you as possible on the day.

Best wishes

It is with the greatest sadness that we inform you of the passing of ELISABETH ANDEL SHIHAN late on the 23rd of July, 2025.

She is survived by her two daughters Liz and Mila their husbands and her two grandchildren.

As many of you would be aware Elisabeth had fought a long and a difficult battle with cancer over the past few years. Throughout this time she continued to join many of us at seminars and events and shared her love of life and Aikido.

Elisabeth's warmth and caring spirit impacted so many of us on a day to day basis yet her passing will be felt across the Aikido world.

More information regarding a memorial service will be posted as soon as it is available.

Best Wishes
Russell O'Connor
Aikido Goshinkai Liaison

Today I walked out on the class saying
“If you can’t bother to turn up on time I can’t be bothered to teach you”
This was disrespectful and wrong founded out of frustration , as students turning up late has started to become the norm for a few ,however respect goes both ways.
Most students turn up early to help put the mats down to get the Dojo ready for a positive training session.
It is disrespectful to to turn just up on time expecting everyone else is to have got the Dojo ready.
It is even more disrespectful to to turn up late and expect everyone is ok with that, it disrupts the training, it’s disrespectful to the Sensei and it just shows a lack of respect period
This is not Budo.
Yes there can be circumstances and if explained are genuinely excepted.
However there are some that are constantly late and leave while we are still putting everything away.
Life is busy I get that but that doesn’t mean you forget respect and expect other students to do the heavy lifting.
Yes you pay to train, but that’s only because we have costs to cover, ( remember teachers do not get paid at this Dojo )that doesn’t give you the right to expect other people to set the Dojo up and put it away for you.
Please all we need is to keep the Aikido tradition alive , but it takes a little bit more work than just training.
We are a community that need to help each over and there is more to this than just training
