Today our Kindy room joined in with National Simultaneous Story Time where a book written by an Australian Author was read by over 1million children across the country. This is an event organised by the Australian Information Library Association which is held annually and this year was the event’s 21’st year. We learnt about life on the International Space Station (ISS) and later listened to the story ‘Give Me Some Space by Philip Bunting’ This was read to us by a NASA Astronaut on the International Space Station. We also did some space themed puzzles, enjoyed a moon dough sensory tray, welcomed some of Monster Wings family members (our class pet’s) which he brought us along with a letter. Finally, we used our loose parts to make some fabulous creations including a robot, some planets and a space ship

Play Based learning
Play-based learning is a type of early childhood education based on child-led and open-ended play. Play-based learning helps children develop social skills, motivation to learn, and even language and numeracy skills. Taking initiative, focused attention, and curiosity about the world are all a part of play.
Through play, children can discover their own interests, abilities and limitations; they imagine, investigate and explore. They develop memory skills, build vocabulary, learn new skills and knowledge and learn how to get on with adults and other children.
Follow this link for more info on the importance and benefits of play based learning as well as strategies:
https://www.education.wa.edu.au/play-based-learning
In the upcoming week, parents will receive more resources about this type of learning and how it can be encouraged in the home environment.
