Year 3 and 4 students enjoyed a delicious cultural celebration in their Italian classes with Pizza Day! While enjoying a slice of Pizza Margherita, they learned about the history behind one of the world's most loved foods. According to tradition, Pizza Margherita was created by renowned Neapolitan pizza chef Raffaele Esposito in honour of Queen Margherita of Savoy. He topped the pizza with tomato, mozzarella and basil, representing the colours of the Italian flag: red, white and green. The pizza quickly became a favourite throughout Italy and remains one of the most popular pizzas around the world today.

We recently welcomed 23 students from Kaichi Nihonbashi Gakuen Junior High School in Tokyo to our school for an International Immersion experience through Gold Educational Tours. The Year 9 students were paired with SVACS buddies from Years 8–10 for two days and took part in a wide range of classes and activities. They also enjoyed lunch with their buddies, sharing some classic Australian favourites including fairy bread, sausage rolls, Tim Tams and lamingtons. The visiting students also spent time with some of our Primary students, making origami, demonstrating kendama and playing “What’s the time, Mr Wolf?”, known in Japanese as “Ōkami-san, Ima Nanji?” This was a rewarding experience for all staff and students involved, and we thank our school community for warmly welcoming the Japanese students during their stay in Perth.

Paul Litherland OAM recently visited our school to speak with students in Years 5-9 about the importance of internet awareness. Paul is the owner of Surf Online Safe - Australia, a Perth-based Internet Awareness consultancy, and is widely regarded as one of Australia’s leading keynote speakers on Cybersafety. Sharing real-life stories and experiences, Paul had the students engaged and entertained throughout his presentation, while encouraging them to slow down and think critically before taking action online. It was wonderful to see the students listening so intently and completely immersed in Paul’s presentation.

As part of their Food Production learning, Year 3 students enjoyed an exciting excursion to Brownes Dairy. Students learned where milk comes from and even had the opportunity to milk a cow themselves. They also toured the factory to see how dairy products are made and finished the day with a yoghurt taste test. It was a fun learning experience for everyone!

A huge well done to our Anglicare Student Ambassadors for their fantastic efforts in hosting their recent Bake Sale! The team (and their families) prepared and sold a delicious selection of homemade treats, raising funds for Anglicare WA's Street Connect Project, which supports young people experiencing homelessness. Thanks to the incredible generosity of our school community, the Bake Sale was a wonderful success, raising more than $1,500! It was fantastic to see students from across the school show their support for this important cause and our Anglicare Ambassadors.

Student leaders from Year 2, Year 6, and Year 12 recently enjoyed an excursion to Kings Park, where they participated in an educational Noongar cultural tour, commemorating NAIDOC Week. The students learned about the deep connection Noongar people have with the land and discovered how native plants were traditionally used for medicine, food, tools and everyday living. A highlight of the experience was the opportunity to try a booka, a traditional cloak made from kangaroo skins, which gave students a tangible connection to Aboriginal culture and history. The tour provided valuable insights into the knowledge, traditions and sustainable practices of the Noongar people.
