I wanted a koala 🐨 but upon research I discovered there is not a Nyoongar word for koala as they are not endemic to the region 🤦‍♀️. It just goes to show how much I am still learning about our local traditional landowners, and just how important it is to reflect and upskill as a teacher and embed these understandings into our classroom for future generations 🧡✨.

I have learnt so much from the Aboriginal EC Consultancy and I highly recommend it as a starting point!

This year I’m planning to start an Acknowledgment of country with the Pre-Kindys. I’ll write a blog post to let you know@how it goes!
I’m also looking at ways I can introduce more Nyoongar language into our daily routines and around the classroom.
Our lovely school has started working towards creating a bush tucker garden which is very exciting!

A favourite positional language activity is to take a photo of the class on the school playground and then display it in class and discuss who is above, below, beside, up, down, underneath, etc etc.! I can’t wait to use this book alongside our learning 🤗❤️.

Looking for a Mother’s Day gift idea? This custom art template is so sweet! Some years I ask the children to draw directly onto the template, and some years I take photos of their art and insert it digitally - which is a bit easier with 3yos as paint tends to go everywhere 🤣.

I always include some sprigs of rosemary for the children to explore. It’s great to see them crush and mix and make their own unique creations ✨❤️
