Ever had one of those "What should I be doing with my child?" moments? You might already have the answer at home.

Earlier this year, every Goodstart family received a What & When for Families guide for each child. If it's been tucked away in a drawer since then, now might be the perfect time to pull it back out.

The guide is packed with simple, play-based activities that support your child's learning and development at home. Best of all, it's written in your child's voice, with ideas tailored to their age and developmental stage.

From singing songs with babies and playing peek-a-boo, to "I Spy" games, storytelling and treasure hunts with older children, the activities are designed to fit naturally into everyday moments you already share together.

We know learning doesn't only happen in the classroom. Those small moments at home can help build big communication, language and literacy skills.

Take another look through your What & When for Families guide to explore age-appropriate activities and learning ideas you can try together.

💛 Sometimes the best learning resource is the one you already have at home.

🌱💚 Little hands, big growth! 🌿

Our children have been busy exploring and caring for our veggie garden! 🥬🌿 They enjoyed checking on the plants, discovering how they grow and learning about the importance of caring for living things.

Through hands-on gardening experiences, the children are developing a deeper connection with nature while nurturing curiosity, responsibility and a love for growing their own food. 🌱✨

There’s nothing better than learning outdoors and getting our hands a little dirty! 🥰🌿

🔬🌈 Celebrating National Science Week! 🌈🔬

This week, we are celebrating National Science Week — a wonderful opportunity to encourage curiosity, exploration and a love of discovery in our little learners! ✨

Today, Chantelle invited the children to take part in a fun and colourful science experiment using Skittles and water. 🍬💧

The children carefully arranged the Skittles around a plate before adding water and eagerly watching what happened. To their delight, the colourful coating slowly dissolved and travelled through the water, creating a beautiful rainbow pattern! 🌈

The children were fascinated as they watched the colours move, spread and change. Through this hands-on experience, they explored cause and effect, made observations, shared their ideas and began developing their early scientific thinking. 🧪💡

Experiences like these show us that science is everywhere — and that some of the best learning happens when children are given the opportunity to wonder, question and discover for themselves. 💕✨

🎨📦 Turning boxes into masterpieces! ♻️✨

Who knew recycled cardboard could be the perfect canvas? Our little artists had so much fun painting, creating and exploring their imaginations using recycled boxes. 🌈🖌️

A wonderful way to get creative while learning that everyday materials can be reused in new and exciting ways! 💚♻️

There are so many benefits to sharing stories together, including encouraging children to develop their focus, listening and language skills. We are also introducing focus words and an Auslan sign. This week, our sign was “hungry”, which we encouraged the children to repeat while rubbing their tummies in a circular motion. 🤲

As you walk into our Explorers room, you’ll notice our Book of the Week display on the fridge. Feel free to have a peek to see which book we are reading and the fun activities we are completing throughout the week!

We would love to hear from you! 💕 Comment below with some of your little one’s favourite books to read at home.
